Dear Pastor Bob: Some Christians say that if a pastor doesn’t not allow the Holy Spirit to take over a worship service, then he is putting God in a box. They argue that the Church service belongs to God, and not the pastor. They say that many ministers preach sermons that are decided on ahead of time, and that this doesn’t allow the Holy Spirit to move like He should during a service. In other words, some say that we shouldn’t place limits on what God can and cannot do during a worship service. These people also say that a Church service shouldn’t be so organized, and that the pastor and congregation should be open to the Holy Spirit inducing vibrant outpourings such as: falling over, healings-on-the-spot, praying out loud in tongues, casting out demons, etc - even if things get loud. And if any of these elements are missing or forbidden, then they are putting God in a box and limiting God’s power. They argue this isn’t fair to the Holy Spirit. Do you have any thoughts on this?
