A week ago today I played Shadow Dancer with friends IRL. We got to the last boss but didn't beat it. I am not able to hang out with them this week, but I'll be with them "in spirit" by attempting to beat Shadow Dancer on my own. I owned and played this game decades ago and had it basically mastered then. All that muscle memory is gone, so today is just an old dude playing an old game... again. Though the Steam format of this game might allow save states, I'll try to beat it fairly without that advantage. If it takes several live streams and many hours, I might get frustrated and use a save state eventually.

Part 3, continuing where I left off in Metroid for NES. I don't remember if I played this back in the day, I think not. I know I played Super Metroid on SNES several times. This is a reskinned version with the same gameplay as the original NES game, but with renewed visuals and sound. I won't be following any walkthrus and by no means have this game memorized, so I'll probably do a lot of aimless wandering. Turns out I beat the game on this third episode. After reviewing the changes this version of Metroid enacts, I probably can't officially say I beat the original Metroid... but on the other hand, none of the improvements make it "easier" just less time-consuming. For example, all the "secret" walls and floors to other rooms are shown on the map, and the original didn't have a map. There is also a continue feature in this version which wasn't in the original. But from what I read, the original gives a password when you die, which might basically be the same, just longer to get back to where you were on the map, etc. I'll probably call it good though and not play the original NES without enhancements. I haven't busted out my Commodore games since I was a kid. Dad bought a Commodore when I was young, and I was introduced to video games through it. I can't remember if I played the Zork text adventure games, though I have vague memories playing a Spider-man text adventure game years ago. There is zero chance I'll remember the plots enough to speed my way through, nor will I use any online cheats or walkthrus. I'll use a whiteboard to take notes and draw a map as I go, since my memory sucks. Since the game seems to have no sound, for music I'll listen to retro video game music from the 16-bit era. Turns out this game is GARBAGE. If you try to draw a map connecting the various north-south-east-west screens, it won't connect. Super annoying!
