Man, some days I'm just stupid! Here's why I thought I could get out of that ice prison: If your vanish cap runs out while you are "inside" the ice blocks like where that wall of 20 coins is, you can walk outside them. But you apparently can't get yourself out of boxed in areas if you are on the "other side" of the ice and your cap runs out, so to speak. I didn't know that offhand which is why I thought it was safe to ignore the 100-coin star for a bit. Since you apparently can't talk to the Bob-omb in there without waiting for the cap to run out, you literally seem to have to activate the cannon, then exit the level via the pause menu as there doesn't seem to be any way out. I even looked for hidden walls by jumping around in that room and couldn't find any. Luckily I got 100 coins "before" I trapped myself otherwise I'd have to show my run through the level all over again.
