MZTV 1251: Jesus Christ Died FOR Us, Not AS Us
The so-called substitutionary death of Christ is a false teaching. It presumptuously assumes that Jesus Christ took our place on the cross—as if WE could have died for our own sins had we been at Calvary. No. As sinning and dying human beings, we needed a Strong Man, someone Who was NOT in our predicament—that is, NOT subject to sin and death—Who could pull us from the mire.
One of the most notable Tories, Peter Meye, caters to this false philosophy by publicly proclaiming—in a debate with Stephen Janowski—that Jesus Christ "was truly one of us." I hesitate to say this because Peter is my friend, but this is one of the most shameful and ignorant statements that could be uttered concerning the nature of Jesus Christ.
In this video, I present a dozen Scripture verses proving that Jesus Christ was most certainly NOT one of us, let alone "truly" one of us. He tabernacled among us, yes; he took our form, yes; he was tried in all manner as we, yes; but these things are a far cry from Him BEING one of us. We could not have been saved by someone who was one of us. A man drowning in a river does not need someone who is "one of him" to drown in his place.
Peter Meye, along with Aaron Welch, is one of the spokesmen of the latest heresy to agitate the body of Christ, namely, that Jesus Christ did not preexist His birth in Bethlehem. This sect believes that Jesus Christ is somehow better glorified if we say that, like us, he found Himself in the predicament of being human—having no idea how He got here—yet managed to overcome the debility by one day becoming the Son of God; they all disagree as to when, exactly, He became God's Son.
All of this flies in the face of Paul's statement (the Scripture) in Philippians 2:6-7 that, before coming to earth, Jesus Christ was in fact "in the form of God," yet "He emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave, and coming to be in fashion as a human." One of the greatest glories of Christ is that, as the Son of God and the Image of the Invisible God, He voluntarily entered our realm to rescue us from a predicament from which we could not, on our own, escape.
It is THIS teaching that TRULY glorifies Christ, not that which makes Him a mere human who, through feats of willpower, attains divine status.
