Episode 156 Overcoming Food Addiction with Susan Pierce Thompson, Ph.D.

Food addictions are real and can be just as debilitating as any other addiction. The difficult piece is, as Susan Pierce Thompson shares, we need food to live where as we don't need drugs, alcohol, or many of the other addictive substances to stay alive.

Susan has overcome her own addictions and is now helping others do the same thing. Her passion for understanding addictions has helped her determine which foods and ingredients are more likely to be addictive. We talk about those foods and how to go about avoiding them. What the options are for people who are addicted but don't want to miss out on special events.

As a neuroscientist, Susan shares a wealth of information in regards to how the brain processes the different spikes we get from food. She reveals how the brain and body need to work together in order to keep weight off long term instead of that all to familiar yo-yo diet scenario. We also discuss the science behind the body's craving for movement once you start feeding yourself properly.

I highly recommend everyone take the FoodAddictionQuiz.com to find out how susceptible you are to food addiction. (I took the quiz after the interview and scored at 3.)
