Peter Wakeman Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party Candidate for the Hamilton West By-election ending at the polling booth at 7pm on the 10th of December welcomes the Documentary How a US President set NZ’s drug laws | RNZ News aired on TV1 last night.

Wakeman personally knows people who have been injured and/or killed from motorists under the influence of alcohol usage. This is before you consider the effects of alcoholics in families and in the community. Wakeman is unaware of anyone who has died from the use of cannabis. The scientific evidence for medical use is well known however there is no science behind the prohibition of cannabis or criminalising those who use it. Wakeman says while some may buy alcohol through regulated means he is unsure why the same does not apply to cannabis as it is already in use in New Zealand. Further statistics in the documentary raise serious questions about people being misinformed.

Wakeman would also welcome media doing better due diligence of Political Candidates or existing Politicians on the legalisation of cannabis subject. We need to stop wasting Police resources on cannabis and target real crime. It is up to the voters of Hamilton West to put it on their agenda to vote for the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party now.
