Tips for buying a fixer upper:

1. Scout the neighborhood. If you’re going to be living there, you want to make sure you’ll like what surrounds you. Neighbors homes, cleanliness, distance from school, parks and shopping… anything you would want. Buying the ugliest house in the nicest neighborhood is 👌

2. Don’t be afraid to DIY.
As long you spend a little more to get GOOD QUALITY supplies, there are so many DIY avenues you can venture towards and save a little extra $$$. Ninety percent of a DIY project is having the guts to try. Worst case scenario, you mess up and then bring in the professional. Best case scenario you save money, learn something new and be proud that YOU did it.

3. Budget for trouble
The worst will happen sooner or later. Whether it be a new furnace, water damage, or just some random thing going out. It’s always smart to save for a rainy day…or a sudden broken appliance.

4. Tackle one project at a time.
I know how quickly you want to dive in to renovations and make it, “your home”. But one minute you tear up the back yard, start on the kitchen and rip up the floors. Before you know it, you have a house that’s completely torn and hard to live in. One project at a time.
