Out in the field with Floyd prepping for this upcoming deer season. I've been roaming this area for 4 or 5 years now and the deer are in here that is for sure. We plan on cleaning things up and getting it ready for the first hunt. I might even make this a little series. We will see how it goes. I've been really busy with life lately. Mainly focusing on preparedness on the home front. The heat wave that we had here in NC was just brutal and working in a building with no AC made me not want to be in the woods or outside at all, just being honest. I'll be back in full swing soon. My buddy, Floyd, and I find a good spot behind the deer stand to set up camp. We trim up a few tree limbs up high in the stand and settle in for a campfire and food. Floyd has his crossbow and tries out his new hammock setup after sharing stories well into the night. Up before first light, Floyd sits in the box stand through the morning with no sight of any deer. It was great to get out and we really enjoyed it. Floyd is already wanting a better hammock. I'm not sure if I know where to get a good one...wink, wink! Floyd and I make a raised cooking fire pit by repurposing old brick and blocks. We enjoy dehydrated chili then get started on a shelter idea. We definitely want to do some type of shelter here at the Hunt Camp but we aren't really sure just what. I'm sure we will have many ideas in the near future. The first overnight camp in the Hunt Camp Shelter. Floyd and I repaint the terrible blue pallet floor to a much more suitable color scheme. After our camping cots and sleeping bags are deployed we hang a kielbasa sausage over the fire and grill up some chicken breasts for dinner. Rain set in throughout the night. Going forward, it is time to hunt. Wish us luck! Floyd and I build a floor for the hunt camp shelter using wood pallets and plywood. We roll on two coats of a quality deck and concrete weather-proof paint. I am not liking the color. Dark grey ended up looking like a weird blue. I will be fixing that! We cook up a couple BBQ pork chops on the fire and work on the shelter frame a little. With rifle season inching closer and closer we are very excited to get the frame finished and camp in the shelter before it is time to focus only on the hunt.
