On June 6, 2022, around 3:45 a.m., Topanga Division patrol officers received a radio call of a Domestic Violence suspect at a residence in the 7000 block Independence Avenue. When officers arrived at scene they located the suspect and victim inside the residence. As officers made contact with the suspect, he began to resist resulting in a Non-Categorical Use of Force.

Officers were successful in detaining the suspect and walked him to their police vehicle. As officers attempted to place the suspect into the rear of their vehicle, the suspect again began to resist, and a second Use of Force occurred.

During the second Use of Force an involved officer contacted the suspect’s neck/throat area. The suspect complained of injury to his neck and was subsequently transported by Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and cleared for booking by medical staff.

Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
