Privacy Tones, Sub-Channels & CTCSS Codes - Why Privacy Tones Are Not GMRS Encryption

I explain what privacy tones and sub-channels on your GMRS or FRS walkie-talkie are, and why these tones and subchannels are NOT encrypted, not secure and cannot be used for secure radio transmission. Whether you use GMRS to talk to your friends off-road, hiking, etc, or for SHTF emergency radio communications you should understand that these "privacy tones' do not encrypt or secure your transmissions in any way. Most GMRS and FRS radios and even HAM radios like the Baofeng UV-5R can use these privacy tones aka CTCSS and DCS tones, but you should know what they are and that they do not provide any kind of radio or GMRS encryption or security before you use them in a private conversation - because, they are not private!
