What is Trump’s Plan, and What Must it Be – Victory or ‘Restraint’/Retreat? For decades, Donald Trump has been clear-eyed and prescient about the threat posed to the United States and freedom-loving people everywhere by the Chinese Communist Party. During his first term as President, he did more than any of his predecessors since Nixon to push back against that mortal enemy. In the wake of his successor’s comprehensive appeasement of the CCP and other damage to America’s military, economic strength, energy security and position in the world, Mr. Trump campaigned for reelection on a platform of adopting anew a policy of “peace through strength.” His Cabinet officers in the key national security agencies share that commitment and have pledged to implement it. Now that Mr. Trump and a number of those top subordinates are in office, precisely defining and executing the new administration’s approach to Communist China has become a hotly contested matter. Some sub-Cabinet positions, notably at the Defense Department, have been filled by proponents of a policy they characterize as “restraint.” While professing an alignment with Trumpian America First priorities, in practice, they seem to favor a continuation of Biden accommodations to Beijing, emphasizing trade and “engagement.” Hopeful speculation is growing on the left that Mr. Trump’s famous penchant for deal-making will cause him to pursue a “grand bargain” with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping, rather than robust responses to the CCP’s increasing belligerent rhetoric and capabilities to act on them. On January 19th, it became illegal for TikTok – a social media platform weaponized by the Chinese Communist Party doing business as ByteDance – to operate in the United States. Overwhelming bipartisan majorities of the House and Senate adopted the ban in 2024; it was signed into law by President Biden, and the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the constitutionality of that statute. To understand why TikTok has been banned, consider how the CCP would respond if a U.S. government-controlled entity had the following capabilities: - directly reach half of the people of China, without the permission, or censorship, of the ruling Chinese Communist Party; - employ algorithms to make this vehicle powerfully addictive to its users in the People’s Republic; - serve as a source of news and information for hundreds of millions of Chinese, including propaganda designed – either overtly or subliminally – to undermine the CCP and promote America and its values; and - collect personal health and other data about every one of its Chinese users and to surreptitiously turn on their phone’s camera and microphone to spy on others The short answer is that CCP would never permit us to do to their population what they are currently doing with the TikTok app to 173 million men, women and children in this country. In fact, the Chinese Communists refuse even to allow their own people to be subjected to TikTok’s insidious and subversive content. The reality that the Chinese Communist Party has gotten away to this point by unilaterally wielding such a potent instrument of information and political warfare against the American people and nation is nothing short of astounding. It speaks volumes about the lack of our public’s “situational awareness” of the threat posed by the CCP and its oft-stated intention to destroy the United States – and the complicity of “captured elites” here in aiding and abetting those ambitions. More remarkable still is the decision of newly inaugurated President Donald Trump – who sought to ban TikTok during his first term – to intervene to postpone enforcement of the law now in effect that requires Chinese divestiture of TikTok. From its inception, the Chinese Communist Party has sought the destruction of the United States as part of its totalitarian ambition to dominate not only China, but the world. For the past thirty years, it has used what the CCP calls “unrestricted warfare” to accomplish that goal without having to fight kinetically a more powerful America. This week, our enemy did immense and possibly lasting – if not decisive – damage by effectively attacking the U.S. artificial intelligence industry. In the run-up to Christmas, the Defense Department issued the 2024 edition of its congressionally mandated annual report on Chinese Military Power. This one had a particularly ominous theme: The build-up of China’s People’s Liberation Army is unmatched by any other since Nazi Germany’s in the 1930s. We know how the Nazis’ unbridled war preparations ended, which is to say, extremely badly. This revelation suggests we may be in for even worse at the hands of another megalomaniac, Chinese Communist emperor Xi Jinping. And its disclosure as the Biden administration is expected to go out of business smacks of a CYA operation. Clearly, it did not just become evident that the CCP has put into place an immense industrial base to amass rapidly more military power than any other nation in over ninety years. Let alone that the fruits of that unprecedented investment are now manifesting in a truly global threat to freedom. Indeed, Team Biden has not only long had access to such intelligence. It has, in fact, enabled the Chinese Communists’ investment in the People’s Liberation Army by, among other things, allowing the transfer of Wall Street-managed pension and other financial assets to prop up the CCP and underwrite its malevolence. As a result, we now face the distinct possibility that Xi has not only amassed such dangerous capabilities but that he intends, like Hitler, to use them. His targets obviously include Taiwan, probably other nations in the Indo-Pacific and, if deemed necessary, the United States mainland, as well. Mishandling the California fires and awarding the Medal of Freedom to traitors is further proof that the Communist apparatus is alive and well in America.
