Volcanic eruption in Tonga reshaped Pacific seafloor - BBC News
Scientists have discovered the true ferocity of a huge volcanic eruption off the coast of Tonga in January.
When the underwater mountain erupted, it sent ash and water-vapour half-way to space, and generated tsunami waves across the globe.
A survey by New Zealand and UK vessels has now fully mapped the area around the Pacific volcano.
It shows the seafloor was scoured and sculpted by violent debris flows out to a distance of over 80km (50 miles).

The sea boiled in Italy! Stromboli volcano eruptions! Volcano Semeru exploded in Indonesia!
This Sunday there were two strong volcanic eruptions in the world.
The Stromboli volcano in southern Italy began erupting the day before.
After a 4.6 offshore earthquake, ash and lava erupted from the volcano into the sea.
All this was accompanied by intense explosive activity.
Reportedly, the flow quickly descended and reached the sea, causing a local tsunami 1.5 meters high.
The authorities of the island alerted the population with alarm sirens.
However, no damage was subsequently recorded.
Schools in Stromboli will remain closed today, and the possibility of temporarily suspending excursions to the crater is also being considered.
Exactly one year after the last eruption, the Semeru volcano on the main Indonesian island of Java erupted again.
According to experts, monsoon rains destroyed the lava dome at the top of the mountain, which led to the eruption.
Since early Sunday morning, the volcano has repeatedly erupted hot ash to a height of about 1500 meters.
Scalding gas and lava flowed down the slopes to the nearest river.
Several villages were covered in falling ash, blocking out the sun.
Authorities have issued a level 4 warning.
The inhabitants of the nearest villages fled, taking everything they could.
11 shelters were opened, where about 2,000 people were evacuated.
Authorities also distributed masks to residents to protect them from ash-polluted air.
There have been no reports of casualties yet.
Indonesian authorities have established a complete exclusion zone of 5 km around the crater.
A partial exclusion zone of 13 km was also established on the southeastern slope.
Semeru, the highest volcano in Java and one of the most active in the world.
Located on the southern tip of the volcanic massif, extending north to the Tengger caldera.

Two mega volcanoes exploded in South America! Spectacular eruptions in Chile and Ecuador!
Over the past three days, two spectacular volcanic eruptions have occurred in South America.
The Lascar volcano in northern Chile erupted early Saturday morning, sending a plume of smoke and ash to a height of 6,000 meters.
The authorities have established a forbidden five-kilometer radius around the crater.
There were no reports of casualties or property damage.
December 8 in Ecuador, the volcano Cotopaxi erupted a column of gas and ash.
The height of the column reached a height of more than 1000 meters above the level of the crater.
Ash fell in the provinces of Pichincha and Cotopaxi.
But after evaluation, it was indicated that he was not dangerous to society.
Recall that the activity of the Cotopaxi volcano has increased since the end of October.
Since October 22, the authorities have declared a yellow alert in the zones of influence of the volcano.
Its previous activity was in August 2015 after 138 years of inactivity.

Transcript:
Hi, I'm Kymber Tackett. I am a licensed and certified massage therapist with advanced training in hospital-based massage therapy. Today, I am here to teach you some techniques for hand and foot massage for caregivers.
Start out with just holding the person's hand, making sure that they are relaxed and they're not in a strain, and just slowly massage their hand and arm just so they get used to your touch. So you want to apply a small amount of lotion into your hand and warm it up in between your hands. And then I start applying it to the arms and the hands.
You want a light motion, not a lot of pressure. It doesn't even hardly move the skin. You can alternate your hands. And you want to do this about six times to make sure all the lotion is on their arms and their hands.
First, you want to take the person's hand palm down inside your hands and moving with a light pressure-- just stroke outward on the top of their hand. And you want to do this about six times from top to bottom. Again, you're just using light pressure.
Next, you want to take the person's hand palm up, start at the thumb-- at the base of the thumb-- using circular motions-- light circular motions. Run from the base to the tip and give the top of the tip a little squeeze at the end and then continue on through all the fingers. Next, with palm still upward, use your thumbs and do a horizontal move outward, starting at the wrist and going up through the palm-- still using light strokes.
For the next technique, take the hand in a handshake position. Use the palm of your other hand and gently work your way up to the elbow with a light but firm long stroke. Complete your technique by placing the hand in a resting position and then continue to the next arm and hand.

Thai Massage
Where in the world would you find the best massages at the best prices? Arguably, Thailand. One can be found in every street corner and yet every single one has its unique and surprising point of difference. Originating in India over 2500 years ago, it is one of the oldest methods of healing in the world. Today, we explore the world of massage, right here in Thailand.
Deep rooted in Thai tradition and absolutely adored by expats and travelers, a massage is more than just relaxation. It heightens awareness, invigorates the nervous system, improves circulation and even enhances elimination of waste. There are three main types of massages. The traditional Thai massage is not for the faint hearted and combines yoga positions with strong kneading. But it refuels and re-energizes.
This massage would be best after the end of an adventurous, action-packed day. Oil massages on the other hand can put you right off to sleep. It typically takes the longest and is best after a big night out. And of course the foot massage or reflexology is a great one to do if you need a quick one after a long day of shopping. Some good places will throw in the neck and shoulders too. In Thailand, the variety is endless.
Prices range from 100 to 900 baht and go beyond just a massage. If you see beautiful Thai ladies at the shop front, often it means additional happy services are also available. For something different, temples also offer massages. In some joints, the blind are employed because they are known to do an exceptional job.
And if you’re up for a full-on extravaganza, there are resort programs that specialise in massages only. This is possibly one of the easiest and best ways to experience Thailand

4 Massage Techniques for Headaches | Deep Massage
Now I'm going to show you a couple of techniques for how to relieve headaches in people.
Headaches can occur in a couple of different places, so we're going to show you all of those. One of the first places that they can happen is right here at the base of the skull. I'm going to go ahead and cup her head in my hands and find this ridge at the base of her skull called the occiput. Your fingers will pretty much sink in there and, you can just get a nice pull back. Of course you're going to want to check in with your client and make sure that they feel comfortable.
This is a nice way to relieve that area. You can also move forward just a little bit. You'll find that there's a couple of little bumps there in front of that ridge. You can do some circular motions on those, or apply deep pressure to that area, and that feels really great as well. So, this is for people who get headaches that are rooted from the back of the head.
Sometimes they'll wrap around to the side and/or they'll be in the front here in the temples. This is pretty common. A lot of people go and try to rub in this area here which, it feels OK, but it's not typically where the headache is located. It's located a little bit higher, and if you just follow your fingers along here they're going to fall into a little dip. Right above that is a ridge, and that's typically where the spot is. You're just going to go nice and deeply, slow movements, keep your fingers with contact on the scalp the whole time. You don't want to bounce over that area especially if there's a headache and it's tender. That will typically help quite a bit.
Another thing that's really common is headaches behind the eyes. So, if it's a sinus headache you're going to be applying pressure here. You'll want to apply pressure and then let go.
But more commonly, and especially I find in women, their headache's behind the eyes. So this is something that is a pretty tender area. You're going to go in just deep enough that you can sort of feel the edge of the eyeball on your finger. They'll be able to guide you in there so you don't go too far. When there's a headache there you're actually going to feel the inflammation. There's going to be a little knot there that kind of feels like a small pebble. It feels like she's actually got one right there in the right side. So, she probably gets headaches on her right side sometimes.
You can also just do pressure there and release, pressure there and release. You do the same thing. You go up to the very top of the arch, kind of hook your finger under just a little bit, apply pressure, and let go. Then all the way on the exterior of the eye like at the end of the eyebrow, apply pressure and let go. Then you're going to do one final one right there in the center of the forehead, and one nice swoop right around the eyebrows, and a little pull.
And that is how you work on headaches.
