Tonsils: Crucial Immune Organs or Unnecessary Sandbags? | A Different Perspective | August 3, 2024
Should you remove your tonsils? Doc made a reel about this recently, and it became unexpectedly popular. Watch this episode of ADP to dive deeper into the topic. Doc points out that the tonsils are part of your immune system, pulling up a Cleveland Clinic article on the immune system and reviewing what the tonsils do and why they swell up. Is removing them the best way to handle this situation? What does A Different Perspective have to say about it?
Watch A Different Perspective to explore the following tonsil-related topics:
Why much of what we know about the immune system is only part of the story: Why is the idea of the immune response being too weak or too strong not the most efficient way to perceive it? How does sugar affect the immune system?
Why do your tonsils swell?: There's a good reason for this response, and it's not a sign that they have to be removed. How should you change your perspective on this immune response?
The "But Doc, I felt so much better after they were removed" argument: This is a response that kept popping up in the comments of his reel: While it's possible that you did feel better, Doc also points out that it's not an objective sign that something is better. What might you have given up for the sake of pain relief?
Why the "talk to your healthcare provider about how you can support your immune system" media message may not work so well: As always, Doc challenges us to think about what we read. When the article suggests talking to a healthcare provider about discontinuing medications that can hurt your immune response, he explains that these doctors are the ones prescribing those medications in the first place. They're doing what they know to do, but they're firemen doctors - not carpenters.
In his Last 10%, Doc discusses a possible new discovery about a contributing factor of autism. Did they truly find the source, or is it possibly overstated? Does correlation indicate causation, and what are a few of the pieces that may be missing from this picture? Doc digs into the facts and shows the receipts with articles and studies. Watch now to find out how this source might be simply an aggravating factor but not a true cause.

K, Let's Talk Potassium | A Different Perspective | July 27, 2024
Potassium is probably one of the elements on the periodic table that people know the least about. What is it used for, how do you get enough for your body to function optimally, and why is it difficult to test for? On this episode of A Different Perspective, Doc dives into the topic of potassium. He pulls out the studies, the science, and breaks it all down to empower you to reclaim your own health and support your body as it supports you!
Some of the questions covered in this episode include:
How does your body use potassium?: Doc lists a few of the many ways potassium is utilized in the body, painting a picture as to why the RDA for this mineral is so high.
What does a potassium deficiency look like?: Doc often shares the idea that health challenges might not be an illness or disease, but a deficiency. If roughly 98% of people are deficient in potassium, what are some of the signs that you might need to up your intake? Doc describes some of your body's signals to look for.
The untold story of potassium benefits: Potassium is used in many different ways by many different systems. What are some little-known ways this may be evidenced? From fatty liver to its influence on the heart and nerves, Doc connects the dots on a few ways you might benefit from increasing your potassium intake.
What foods are rich in potassium?: As always, Doc recommends getting your necessary nutrients through whole foods rather than from supplements (though he has recommendations for those as well if you need a temporary supplement). What should you pick up on your next grocery trip to improve your potassium levels?
In his Last 10%, Doc discusses the vitamin K shot that hospitals often give babies shortly after birth. Is it truly "just vitamin K" or is there more to it? Why is this shot administered to newborn babies? Is there a better way for Mama and Baby to receive these necessary nutrients? Doc digs into the facts and shows the receipts with articles and studies!

The Secrets Your Tongue Keeps | A Different Perspective | July 20, 2024
What does it mean when your tongue burns or looks like hamburger? What can your tongue tell you about your health? Probably more than you think! This week, on A Different Perspective, Dr. Bryce Gallagher dives into this discussion and explains the plethora of information this muscle can give you about the state of your health.
He covers many useful topics, including:
Geographic tongue: Geographic tongue affects 2-3% of the population. Signs of geographic tongue are a loss of papillae, redness, and the tongue looking like a map. Dr. Bryce covers a few different triggers of Geographic Tongue, like allergies, hormonal changes, and stress.
Hamburger tongue: What does it mean when your tongue looks like a hamburger? This is a condition commonly associated with geographic tongue, which can come from similar triggers and underlying infections. How should you approach and address it? Dr. Bryce explains why it's not the same for everyone.
Oral thrush and candidiasis: Oral thrush can come from a fungal or yeast overgrowth. What are the symptoms beyond a white-ish tongue? Dr. Bryce breaks it down while addressing the differences between oral thrush and Leukoplakia.

UTIs: Triggers and Solutions | A Different Perspective | July 13, 2024
UTIs: Triggers and Solutions | A Different Perspective | July 13, 2024
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are common concerns for ladies around the world. Even when women are prescribed antibiotics, they may come back again and again. Why? What makes urinary tract infections so stubborn and reoccurring? How do you address the contributing factors of chronic UTIs for longer periods of relief? On this episode of A Different Perspective, Doc dives into these topics and more!
He covers many potential solutions, including:
Oregano oil: Oregano oil can help with respiratory illnesses and antioxidant activity, as well as reducing inflammation and supporting the body's response to infection. This supplement is rich in carvacrol and thymol, and Doc explains how both of these can help prevent the formation of the biofilm.
Human breast milk and coconut oil: Both breast milk and coconut oil contain a constituent called glycerol monolaurate. While many people believe that breast milk has no benefit for anyone older than six months, Doc challenges this theory. He also explains how coconut oil can be beneficial, whether it's applied topically or taken orally.
Lemon, lime, and ACV: Doc also shares a simple concoction made with common household ingredients, and why he suggests this combination of ingredients for people struggling with UTIs.
Plus many others!
In his Last 10%, Doc discusses the overturning of Chevron deference. It's not the alphabet soup groups that should have authority over you, only those you vote into office. The best way to keep your freedoms where you want them is to go vote. Doc encourages not letting party-politics control your vote, but those who most side with your values - even if you don't agree with them on everything.

The Protein Challenge - What to Expect in the First Week | A Different Perspective | July 6, 2024
The Protein Challenge - What to Expect in the First Week | A Different Perspective | July 6, 2024
This week, we at The Wellness Way started our Power of Protein Challenge. If you joined us, you may have noticed a couple of changes in your body: Changes in bowel movements, cravings, and weight are common and normal with such a notable dietary change. Why? This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Bryce Gallagher joins us to explain what you might be feeling after increasing your daily protein intake, and how to maximize those protein benefits!
He covers many useful topics, including:
How eating more protein may reduce sugar intake: When you boost your protein intake so drastically, you get full faster. When that happens, that last brownie starts to not look *quite* as good, because your body is already satisfied - and with food that has far more nutrients!
Malabsorption: This may be the biggest obstacle for most people. Certain health conditions - and even just mental stress - can reduce stomach acid, making it harder for the body to digest the food it's given. What are a few ways to help support the body's absorption? Dr. Bryce breaks them down for us!
How do you set yourself up for success? It can be challenging to get in the amount of protein you're supposed to aim for. Dr. Bryce shares some practical tips on how to make it easier - including some snack ideas!

Cellulite - Where Does it Come From, and How to Address it | A Different Perspective | June 29, 202
In some circumstances, cellulite has become more of a "dreaded C word" than cancer. Women who struggle with cellulite can feel self-conscious and uneasy. They may avoid shorts or swimsuits. And it doesn't seem as if any "cure" has a 100% success rate. Why? Is there any hope for bringing your skin back to the smooth version of itself we all inherently know it's supposed to be? What causes cellulite in the first place? On this episode of A Different Perspective, Doc talks about exactly that!
Some points covered are:
What is cellulite? What is cellulite, and how does it form? Doc breaks down the science behind cellulite.
Cellulite can come from protein and amino acid deficiencies: Through a cut-away image, Doc shows us the structure of skin to illustrate yet another reason why eating enough protein is important - to keep your skin smooth and dimple-free!
Cellulite from hormonal sources: What's the hormonal story behind cellulite? Doc covers the details and explains why it can frequently show up after menopause.
Next steps: As always, Doc offers practical advice and ways to address cellulite based on what's triggering it for your skin.
In his Last 10%, Doc pulls up a recent article from Environmental Health News. He walks us through the article's information and explains the areas where environmental health factors can falter for some; Ensure your air and water are clean, but don't subsequently inject those environmental factors into your body.

Sunscreening vs Sunbathing - Which Is Better for Your Health? | A Different Perspective | 06/22/24
Is the sun bad for you? It'd be easy to think so: From sunscreen to hats and sunglasses, most people are no stranger to the idea of protection from the sun, and it's understandable with topics like skin cancer, sunburn, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke hovering around the idea. However, sunlight also helps with the production of Vitamin D and melatonin, and many people credit sunshine with encouraging an overall feeling of wellness.
This week on A Different Perspective, Doc helps us understand the nuances and details behind sun exposure: Is it beneficial? At what point can sun exposure become harmful? Doc also provides some practical advice on protecting your body from the sun, supporting your body's natural sunscreen melanin, and soothing your skin when you've had too much. Watch now to learn it all!
In his Last 10%, Doc discusses a recent article exploring a correlation between Guillain-Barre syndrome and the RSV inoculation in older people. He explains where some of the article's reasoning falters while providing us with a case study to consider. How do vitamin D and inflammation fit into the situation? Doc explains! Watch now to see him connect some often-overlooked dots.

Skin Tags And Warts - Tip-Up Warnings | A Different Perspective | June 15, 2024
Many people have had at least one wart or skin tag at some point in their lives. For many, they can be annoying or embarrassing: They also seem to show up with no real rhyme or reason - but is this true? Doc uncovers the answers to this question in this episode. Mainstream medicine presents ways of removing both skin tags and warts - whether that involves cutting, freezing, or removing them via electrodessication. If you've been around The Wellness Way for a while, you can likely guess our main concern with these methods - while they take care of the external issue, it doesn't fully address the reasons why they showed up in the first place.
This week on A Different Perspective, Doc helps us understand warts and skin tags as tip-ups: Signals that there's something going on beneath the surface. He addresses what some of those contributing factors might be - from pregnancy to estrogen dominance, and obesity to metabolic syndrome. Doc also explains a few ways to address both the external tip-up and the internal contributing factors. Watch now to learn his practical tips!
In his Last 10%, Doc discusses a recent study claiming xylitol was bad for you. He explains why it's critical to look at the circumstances of tests and studies done in an attempt to prove something, or even to disprove something - is this a normal situation? For the study in question, participants were given an amount of xylitol that didn't match the quantity consumed on a regular basis. Why is this important? Doc explains!

Should I Avoid Lectins? | A Different Perspective | June 8, 2024
What are lectins?
Should I avoid them?
Are lectins inflammatory?
This week on A Different Perspective, Doc digs into the details of this topic. He explains what lectins are, where they can be found, the effects they can have on the body, and how to address those effects: All in a way that's relatable and easy to understand.
Some topics covered are:
Concerns about lectins: What are the main reasons to avoid lectins, based on what most people are told? Are they truly a concern or could these concerns be a bit overblown? Doc covers the facts and why some people say they have valid reasons to avoid lectins.
Potential benefits of lectins: On the other side of the lectin debate, Doc explores the potential positives of lectins and when it might be beneficial to consume them. The effects are worth noting, but in what situations might there be benefits to lectins?
How cooking changes foods: Doc has discussed in the past how cooking and cooling foods can change the nutrients and the effect that food may have on the body. How does this concept impact "anti-nutrients" like lectins? What other "anti-nutrients" have a different effect based on cooking and cooling?
Food sources: Doc provides a few examples of foods that are high in lectins. Whether you're avoiding lectins or starting to add them to your diet, it's good to know where you can find them!
In his Last 10%, Doc describes Fauci's latest appearance on the news, as well as the upcoming "bird flu." He addresses the idea of "following the science," and how science isn't necessarily a blind truth to follow without questioning the methods - that's not how the scientific method works. He also encourages you to do your research on vaccines and understand your rights around them - the schedule isn't a law!

Why Hair Loss Happens and What You Can do About it | A Different Perspective | June 1, 2024
Hair loss can be a distressing experience for women. Discover the contributing factors and promising solutions in this week's episode of A Different Perspective!
A lot of women take pride in their hair, even if it frustrates them sometimes. Therefore, hair loss for women - or simply thinning hair - can be more embarrassing than hair loss is for men. Whether it comes out in your brush, between your fingers in the shower, or if you happen to find more around the house than usual, this can be an emotional scenario. What might be causing this? How does hair loss happen?
This week on A Different Perspective, Doc discusses just that! He breaks down what may be going on beneath the surface of the body to result in hair thinning or hair loss. What could be out of balance and why is the body responding this way? How do you address hair loss, and can it be reversed? What can you do to support healthy hair growth? Doc gives us all the hairy details this week!
Some topics covered are:
Androgens and hair loss: There are some correlations between higher androgen levels and the impact on hair loss or hair thinning for women. Doc describes the science behind hormone levels and hair health!
Hair loss and melatonin: While most people see melatonin as a "sleep hormone," it actually does a great deal more than that. What impact might melatonin be having on your hair? Tune in to find out!
Protein/collagen and biotin: One of the ways you can support your hair's growth and overall health is by increasing your protein intake. Doc explains why biotin is just one of the reasons behind protein intake and hair health: What is it, what does it do, and what are some good sources of biotin?
In the every-day: Doc breaks down some practical steps for supporting hair growth. Check it out!
In his Last 10%, Doc also discusses how easy it can be to get wrong information and fall for lies if you don't do your own diligent research. Is fatherhood bad for your heart? Did the Wisconsin Immunization Law change? How can you start thinking critically about the claims thrown at you every day? What questions do you ask, and who do you seek these answers from? Doc recommends a few helpful places to start!

Protein Intake: How Much is Too Much? | A Different Perspective | May 18, 2024
Doc frequently reminds us about the importance of getting enough protein, but can you eat too much protein? After all, a bowl of broccoli is beneficial for most people, but your body will likely reject ten bowls of broccoli all at once: Where's that line with protein?
This week on A Different Perspective, Doc discusses just that! He breaks down some of the studies that postulate where "healthy" turns into "too much of a good thing." How are these conclusions determined? Is there a source that's better for protein than whole foods? What's the difference in recommended intake between whole sources of proteins and supplemental sources? Doc breaks it down this week!
Some topics covered are:
How much protein your body needs each day: The RDAs are what you need to eat to prevent nutrient deficiency. How much should you eat if you want to keep your body healthy and functioning well?
Quantity and quality change the game: If you're getting either an inefficient quantity or a less-than-ideal quality of protein, both may impact your health in different ways. How differently? Doc breaks down a few studies and examples to illustrate the differences.
"Trust the science; you can have too much protein": What does the science say, and how were these scientific studies organized? Doc digs deeper!
Cancer application: There have been multiple studies regarding the impact of carbohydrates and protein on cancerous cell growth. What do these studies teach us? How might this impact your daily life?
In his Last 10%, Doc also discusses upcoming challenges and the Leadership and Longevity seminar: In-person tickets have sold out, but virtual tickets are still available. Doc also announces this will be his final year for speaking engagements, so if you want to see one of his talks, now's the time to do so! This is one of the few times he's allowing his presentation to be recorded - you don't want to miss out!

Protein Power: Collagen vs. Animal Meat - Nutrition Comparison | A Different Perspective | 05-11-24
Doc frequently reminds us about the importance of getting enough protein in your diet: But what's the best way to get that protein? This week on A Different Perspective, Doc breaks down some of the pros and cons of collagen powder, animal protein, and plant-based protein. Which protein source gives you the greatest amount of protein? Which protein source provides more of your essential amino acids? Doc answers the burning questions!
Some topics covered are:
Collagen's popularity: What brought collagen into the public eye, and why?
Beef proteins and essential amino acids: How many of those essential amino acids does beef provide for you? How does beef measure up against the amount provided in collagen or protein powder? Which has a better nutritional value?
Real-life results: Women share their real-life experiences and challenges from optimizing the protein intake in their diets. How much protein have they been eating? How has it impacted their nutrition and lifestyle habits?
You are what you eat?: Doc challenges this old adage with a new one: You are what you absorb. How do you make sure your body absorbs what it needs while also absorbing the amount you need? How do you properly optimize protein for health?
In his Last 10%, Doc also discusses the upcoming challenges and Leadership and Longevity seminar. He points out that this is an educational opportunity to take advantage of, especially if you are eager to learn more about the topics discussed on ADP. He's going to be one of the seminar speakers, along with some other incredibly inspirational speakers as well. Tickets are selling out soon - don't delay getting yours!

Is Berberine Nature’s Ozempic? - Exploring the Science | A Different Perspective | May 4, 2024
Curious if berberine is truly a natural alternative to Ozempic? Is Ozempic a good way to lose weight? How does it work? Watch now to find out - Doc is back from touring for his I Disagree Tour and has returned just in time for Part 2 on Ozempic!
As Doc begins outlining the mechanisms of action of Ozempic, he reminds us that neither his doctors, health restoration coaches - or even Doc himself - can give specific medical advice. If you have questions about prescription drugs or any medications, please consult your medical doctor. Doc is here to provide information about the body, and why certain substances work for specific health-related purposes. However, the choices you make as a result of that information are entirely your own.
Other topics covered include:
Semaglutides: The European Medicines Agency (the EMA) claims that Ozempic is a semaglutide. What do the EMA and the Mayo Clinic have to say about what semaglutides are and how they work?
Is Berberine Really Nature's Ozempic?: This is the popular claim circulating around social media lately. Is it true? How are berberine and Ozempic similar? How are they different?
Doc's Advised Diet: Many people ask Doc about what type of diet he suggests for weight loss, and his perspective of intermittent fasting. Doc digs into these topics more in depth while giving you a couple of reasonable action steps.
Leadership, Longevity, and Influence: In Doc's Last 10%, he talks about the Leadership and Longevity seminar coming up in three weeks. Why is the seminar important, even if you don't think you have an area in your life where you fill a leadership role?

Skincare - Acne and Cellulite: What's Going On? | A Different Perspective | April 27, 2024
Many women struggle with the frustrations of acne and cellulite. While neither may be particularly dangerous or harmful, it can still be a hit to her confidence. The number of quick fixes for acne out there are numerous, and the cellulite-reducing 'hacks' and product recommendations on social media might be even worse: Women often try a variety of different approaches to reduce acne and/or cellulite, but they don't always work.
If you've been around The Wellness Way for a while, you'll probably know the first question we ask when facing these skin concerns - Why is the body reacting this way? This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Bryce Gallagher, D.C., dives into this question with a look at what acne and cellulite are and provides a few ways to address these concerns.
Some of the topics covered include:
- Suggested Treatments: What solutions are suggested by our current system of healthcare for acne and cellulite concerns? What are some of the concerns our docs and health restoration coaches have about these suggested solutions?
- Types of Acne: Not every case of acne happens for the same reason. What are some of the signs to look out for that may help determine your specific acne type? How do these signs impact how your acne should be addressed?
- Cellulite Causes: What is cellulite? What triggers it in the body?
- Addressing Cellulite: What do cellulite's triggers tell us about how to restore health and proper function in the body?

Cancer Isn't Just Bad Luck - Exploring Non-Genetic Causes | A Different Perspective | April 20, 2024
Discover why genetics might not be the main culprit in cancer - watch now!
Cancer is a big concern for many people these days, and it's no surprise: In the last fifty years since the government declared the war on cancer, the numbers haven't gone down. Roughly 50% of people still get a cancer diagnosis at some time in their lives. What's going wrong, and are there other effective health strategies that we can use to fight against cancer? It's time for A Different Perspective! This week on ADP, Nicole Saleske, FNP, APNP, gives exactly that.
What's the good news? Evidence suggests that less than 5% of cancer diagnoses today are due to genetics. There's a reason your body works the way it does, and cancer only proves that your body is smart.
What are the action steps? There's a reason your body does what it does, and you're responsible for helping to support it in its proper function. Nicole Saleske, FNP, APNP provides several examples of this concept as they relate to cancer when looking at them from the metabolic approach specifically, including:
Blood sugar balance: There's a saying by Dr. Francis Collins of the NIH that "genetics loads the gun; environment pulls the trigger." Sugar can feed cancer cells, so keeping your blood sugar balanced can help starve cancer and make it difficult for it to grow and spread.
Toxin burden: Cancer rates have soared since the Industrial Revolution about 300 years ago, with many studies linking toxin exposures to certain cancers. Toxins are found everywhere in our lives, these days - including the water we drink.
The gut microbiome: The trillions of microbes that live within and on you can either increase or decrease susceptibilities to certain cancers, affecting our largest mucus membrane.
Stress and biorhythms: Shift work is a known carcinogen, given how much it impacts our normal circadian and hormone cycles. There is amble evidence supporting the negative effects of stress on your body's ability to function and adapt.
Nicole Saleske, FNP, APNP, breaks down complex body processes and makes them easy to understand. This is one video no one should miss! After all, if you remove the tumor but not the process that triggered the tumor, what's to stop the tumor from coming back?
Very few of us are living truly healthy lives. What might you be missing? Watch this video and find out!

How Modern Life Can Affect Your Gut and Mental Health | A Different Perspective | April 13, 2024
The gut microbiome is a popular topic of conversations about health, and it's no mystery as to why: There is so much more going on in the gut than most people realize. Simply stated, the gut microbiome impacts quite a bit - including your mental health.
How do histamines, glutamate, hormones, and estrogen dominance impact the gut-brain axis? This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Bryce Gallagher, D.C., answers these questions and more. Discover how simple changes to your diet and environment can support your mental health and hormonal balance.
Some of the topics covered include:
- Histamines: Histamines like cortisol tend to be demonized. In reality, histamines are important for multiple bodily functions like stomach acid: When they are out of balance, they can cause concerns.
- Glutamate: What does this neurotransmitter do, and how could it affect your mental health and hormone balance?
- Real-Life Application: What do these things look like when applied to real life? Dr. Bryce Gallagher, D.C., walks us through some real-life applications and things to look for.
- Next Steps: Most people's gut microbiome could be affected by modern-day life in some way. Dr. Bryce Gallagher D.C. covers a few questions to ask yourself as you continue your journey to health restoration.
Dr. Bryce Gallagher, D.C. also talks about the supplements Chamomile and Magnesium Citrate: He explains how these supplements can support the body in more ways than just for relaxation-supporting purposes. Remember to consult a Wellness Way doctor or health restoration coach to get yourself tested and learn how to support your body's specific needs. One size doesn’t fit all!

Health and Wealth | SPECIAL EDITION A Different Perspective - Book Launch | April 6, 2024
Is there anyone that doesn't want to be healthy? Even if we don't want to be healthy for ourselves, we generally want those we love to be healthy and well -- our spouses, kids, parents, or other loved ones. But, it can be hard to tell, sometimes, how to be healthy.
This week, Dr. Patrick Flynn, D.C., turns the question on its head and invites you to look at health another way - from A Different Perspective. He postulates that everyone knows how to be healthy, because we all know how to be unhealthy.
Some of the steps to achieve the unhealthiest version of you include:
- Not sleeping enough: If someone is trying to be unhealthy, the first thing they should do is stay awake or go to sleep at a time that doesn't work with their unique circadian rhythm. As such, if you're trying to be healthy, you need to get enough sleep.
- Temperature-dependent glycemic index of carbohydrates: There's a reason why certain foods have to be heated up in order to receive the most nutrient benefit: After all, heating and cooling foods adjusts some of the chemical make-up. Doc walks us through how temperature can be used to our benefit (and detriment).
- Eat processed foods and neglect food allergies: If you've been around TWW for a while, you know that eating sugar, processed foods, and ignoring your food allergies could affect inflammation and pain. If a person wants to be sick, they should fill their daily meals with these foods: However, if health is the goal, everyone could benefit from keeping their meal prep empty of these ingredients.
- Move less: This is an easy one -- we all know that moving is important for health. What happens to the body when someone lives a sedentary lifestyle?
- And more!
Doc also talks about how this theory applies in other areas of life: How do you win at work? With your spouse? Your kids? Simple -- ask yourself what the easiest way to lose would be in these situations, and then do the opposite.

Exercise and Carbohydrates -- What's a Lady to Do? | A Different Perspective | March 30, 2024
There's nothing quite like the feel of a good workout -- whether that's the satisfaction of knowing you're helping your body, the burn of the muscles, or the runner's high. It's why programs like Crossfit, P90X, and Weight Watchers have gained so much traction. We all want to do what's right for our bodies and eat well.
But what happens when the exercise you're doing and the food you're eating are doing more harm than good? Ladies, you can end up delaying or skipping your period altogether. Is that so bad? After all, what woman LIKES her period? This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Patrick Flynn, D.C., answers these questions and more.
Some of the topics covered include:
- Amenorrhea -- is it really worth being worried about? Does skipping or delaying your period produce concerns in areas other than fertility?
- Temperature-dependent glycemic index of carbohydrates: There's a reason why, in order to get enough nutrients from plants, you have to cook it. Because heating and cooling foods adjusts some of the chemical make up. Doc walks us through how that can be used to our benefit.
- Different exercises for different sexes: Biologically, men and women are different. It makes sense, then, why they should work out in different ways in order to keep their bodies healthy. Doc covers these differences and even how women need to exercise differently on different weeks in order to remain healthy and well.
- Next steps: As always, Doc gives examples and suggestions on practical ways to support your body on your road back to wellness.
In his Last 10%, Doc also talks about his upcoming Leadership & Longevity Seminar. He talks about how leadership is influence, and how stay-at-home moms are the epitome of both.

Transform Your Health: Short-Chain Fatty Acids, The Gut Microbiome, and Chicory Root | 03/23/2024
We hear a lot of talk about the gut microbiome, and it's no mystery as to why: Between the immune response, the digestive system, and the "second brain" of neurotransmitters, it has a lot going on. No wonder the health restoration coaches at The Wellness Way (as well as many other people) encourage supporting normal function in the gut.
But what is normal function in the gut, and why is it important? This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Bryce Gallagher, D.C., answers these questions and more: Dr. Bryce Gallagher, D.C. dives into a few nuances of how the gut works, and provides a breakdown of the study The Interplay between the Gut Microbiome and the Immune System in the Context of Infectious Diseases throughout Life and the Role of Nutrition in Optimizing Treatment Strategies. (https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/13/3/886)
Some of the topics covered include:
- The gut microbiome -- the key to health is in the balance: There're a lot of bacteria, viruses, and more within the gut. Most of them are ones we've been taught to be wary of, but they're actually supposed to be there -- just not in overwhelming numbers. It's not usually one major pathogenic organism causing issues.
- IgA antibodies and mucosal defenses: Our bodies have many mucosal linings. What do these linings do, and why do IgA antibodies matter? What does it mean if these numbers are high? Your body knows what it's doing, and your immune system is designed to handle it.
- Short-chain fatty acids: What do these metabolites do in your body, and what do they have to do with regulatory T cells? How can you support your body's production of them?

Exploring Ozempic for Weight Loss: Pros, Cons, and How It Works | March 16, 2024
Ozempic has been heralded as quite the miracle drug for weight loss. A variety of different organizations -- including Weight Watchers -- have jumped on the bandwagon to promote it. Why? Does it work, and if so, how?
This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Patrick Flynn, DC, answers these questions and more: What is Ozempic? How do semaglutides and GLP-1 impact the body, and what can happen if you have too much or too little of either? What are some ways you can support your body either way? Are there other solutions for weight loss?
Some of the topics covered include:
- Ozempic side effects: Every action has benefits and consequences. What are the benefits and consequences of taking Ozempic? What are the benefits and consequences when you don't?
- Asking the right question: If the body isn't functioning properly, it means something needs to be addressed. If the body believes it should hold on to excess weight, what's causing this response?
- Immune response and the gut: If the body works like a Swiss watch and everything impacts all other processes and organs, how do the immune response, gut, and GLP-1 affect one another?
- GLP-1 and diet: GLP is a hormone your body needs. What foods can you add to support your body through weight loss?
- Allulose: What is this substance? How does it impact your body, and how can you get it?
Doc also covers additional questions and announcements in his Last 10%. These topics include:
- The customer creates the demand
- Intermittent fasting
- Does broccoli cause cancer?
- The upcoming Leadership & Longevity Seminar

Understanding Cortisol: Effects, Imbalances, and Solutions | A Different Perspective | March 9, 2024
We've all heard of stress's negative effects on the body, and some of us even know that the "stress hormone" is cortisol. Does that mean that cortisol is bad for you? And, if so, why does your body produce it?
This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Bryce Gallagher dives into this question. What is cortisol, what effects does it have on the body, and what can happen if you have high cortisol? Low cortisol? What are some ways you can support your body in either case, and what supplements are typically recommended?
Some of the topics covered include:
Cortisol and Stress: what is the relationship between cortisol and stress, and what are the results?
Cortisol and the metabolism: How can cortisol impact and affect metabolism? What are some signs this is happening to you?
Telomeres and astragalus: What are telomeres, how do they impact aging, and what impact does astragalus have on them?
How to manage cortisol levels naturally: What are some things you can do to support your body when it comes to cortisol, and how do these steps work?
Effects of high cortisol: What are some signs you should start looking at your cortisol levels? (Accompanied by the flip side of the coin: Effects of low cortisol.)
Dr. Bryce also covers California poppy, astragalus, kava, and L-theanine. He breaks down how these supplements support the body and why they can help so much more than just the cortisol response. As always, remember to consult a Wellness Way doctor or certified health restoration coach to get yourself tested and learn how to support your specific needs. One size doesn’t fit all!

Estrogens: The Good, the Bad, and the Liver | A Different Perspective | March 2, 2024
Can the body naturally produce something that's bad for you? It may be surprising, but it's true: Between "bad estrogens," "bad cholesterol," and "excess fat," many people are unhappy with what the body does from time to time. That's usually because most people don't truly understand why the body would do something that's bad for us.
{This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Patrick Flynn dives back into estrogens: Why are they considered "bad," and what do they have to do with the excess fat so many of us are unhappy with? Do estrogens play a role in breast cancer and weight gain? If so, what is the connection? Doc goes into it and walks us through several studies to illustrate his point.
Some of the topics covered include:
Adipose tissue: what does it do, when is it produced, and how is it connected with estrogens?
There are no such things as "bad estrogens": What are estrogens, what do they do, and why is it bad if they get too high or too low?
Cytochrome: Why does it matter that you reach adult levels when you are only one year old?
Steps for a healthy liver: What are seven things you can do to support your liver's function, and why are these steps important?
Orthorexia: What is this new disorder, do you have it, and is it bad?

Cancer & Weight Loss: Adipose Tissue & Estrogen Metabolism | A Different Perspective | Feb 24, 2024
Most things in life come down to a question of perspective. If you've been around The Wellness Way for a while, you understand that ours is generally different than that of the medical field. This is no different when it comes to breast cancer and weight loss. What most people think they know is neither the full story, nor is it the only perspective out there.
This week, on A Different Perspective, Dr. Patrick Flynn digs back into estrogens. This time, he explains the effect of estrogens on breast cancer risks and weight loss -- and the connection between cancer and weight loss. Doc brings several supportive studies and an understanding of anatomy as he walks us through his perspective on the "why, when, and how" for these important topics.
Some of the topics covered include:
Why "health foods" aren't necessarily the answer: Your body needs to be able to burn its fuel well, and some people can't digest even the most basic healthy food -- lettuce!
Estrogens cause neither weight gain nor breast cancer: Estrogens tend to stir up trouble in the body when you are exposed to estrogens excessively and hormone levels become abnormal -- similar to sugar!
Adipose tissue and estrogens: Why is adipose tissue considered an endocrine gland, and how does it impact the amount of estrogens your body has at its disposal?
Cancer and different demographics: Your ethnicity and where you live could impact your risk for certain health concerns. How can you use these factors to benefit your health?
Cruciferous vegetables and breast cancer growth: What do your eating habits have to do with weight loss and cancer? Doc goes into it!
CEA Test: What does this lab tell you and what if you have abnormal results?
Get all the science, learn something about your body, and put yourself on the path to health restoration. Watch now for all the details, and set up a call with one of our docs here: https://www.thewellnessway.com/clinics/

Estrogens, Breast Cancer, and What Conventional Medicine is Missing | ADP | February 17, 2024
We all know about the dangers of breast cancer - the medical field has done very good work with that marketing campaign. Most of us understand what causes breast cancer - estrogen, right? Well, not exactly. Much like when it comes to hormone testing and the idea of weight loss, the medical field is missing some very key components about estrogens and how they work. Yes - they. The medical field often misses the fact that there's more than one estrogen.
This week on A Different Perspective, Dr. Patrick Flynn is back and diving in with some controversial takes on estrogens and breast cancer. As always, Doc's information is backed with studies and science!
Some of the topics covered include:
• Why "estrogens" aren’t the only contributing factors for developing breast cancer: You need estrogens, but there's more to the story
• Estrogens and weight gain
• Similarly, estrogens and weight loss
• Estrogens and calories
• Why the medical field has chosen to demonize ALL estrogens
• Aromatase-inhibiting foods: "natural alternatives" to aromatase-inhibiting medications
Doc also discusses the supplement echinacea. He breaks down how echinacea supports the body and why it can help so much more than just the immune system and immune response. As always, remember to consult a Wellness Way doctor or certified health restoration coach to get yourself tested and learn how to support your specific needs. One size doesn’t fit all!
