Ghost of Frankenstein (1942) - Cinematic Fantastic Podcast #podcast
A neurodivergent nerd father and son review Ghost of Frankenstein (1942)
The first Frankenstein franchise film without Karloff and it shows! In this episode: Jason tries to see how many times he can call Ghost of Frankenstein's plot "bonkers". William still finds plenty to like about this movie even though today's Frankenstein fans are unimpressed. See Dr. Henry Frankenstein transform from to Colin Clive to Cedric Hardwicke after he dies. The afterlife has not been kind to the not-so-good-Doctor. Can this franchise get worse? Maybe, but Bela Lugosi's Ybor is still the best! Can't kill him, can you?

Cinematic Fantastic 035 - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941) #moviereview #podcast
A neurodivergent nerd father and son extensively review Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)
It took 2 months but it's finally here! In this episode: William bubbles over the frothing soupy serum of this movie's production history. Then Jason assures us that this plot is indeed Dr. Henry Jekyll, he swears, while William compares the dialogue to the 1931 original! And that Arthur song about Dr. Jekyll is a bop and nobody will tell me otherwise.

We Watched Indiana Jones 5, Were The Rumors True?
William and Jason from Cinematic Fantastic give their unedited thoughts on this divisive final Indiana Jones film starring Harrison Ford as the famous adventurer and directed by Logan director James Mangold, discussing how it is better than the previous movie in some aspects and way worse in others, with added visual commentary! Make sure to pause to read them if you wish!
POST COMMENTARY (READ AFTER WATCHING):
After recording this review and taking time to formulate and solidify my opinion of this film, I do not hold it as high as I did the day of watching. There is general dumbing down on Disney's part (23:27) feeling like something Disney would dump onto streaming (41:13) and looking cartoony despite being "one of the most expensive" in film history. It feels cheap because of the overuse of closeups (11:34) where the Spielberg movies had way more wide shots and establishing shots.
This film has barely any 'adventuring' as the plot is overall very scant and simple, which hurts the pacing a lot especially when the ending was horribly rushed and sudden, as if the movie should have gone on for longer, resolved it's plot, or should've even meant something as a whole. At the time I did not take this as serious an issue as I do now as I was optimistic on it's better elements.
Also the stakes are not set up THAT high (high in concept but not in execution 24:54) as we do not see how much the finding of the Dial matters to our characters.
This movie butchered the late 60's feel that it potentially could've pulled off really well (11:00) in comparison to the previous movie. They do not mention or bring as a theme the Cold War at all, which would've been great if they had actually done, nor even the Space Race specifically as it relates to it, except for the line "Ooh, look, the Astronauts!" which was only as means to say Indy's old archeology talk is outdated in comparison to the new.
Generally, script quality was overall a very lacking element, as the dialogue is stilted and the plot flawed, simple, and cliché. Therefore I ultimately hold this movie lower than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Ignore that I said that movie is inferior.
Lastly I would like to bring up the Steven Soderbergh cut of Raiders of the Lost Ark. This cut desaturates the movie to be black and white and removes all audio, to show how the staging of this movie's cinematography is expertly crafted and calculated. This shows how amazing this movie is, how the shots are spectacular and full of ingenuity, and how good the lighting is as well, this movie looks AMAZING black and white. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic movie that can never be dethroned even by Disney.

Deep dive review on the history, actors, and plot of The Invisible Ray (1936) by a neurodivergent nerd father and son. Blasting from a space gun near you! In this episode:
- William compares H.G. Wells' ideas of the things to come to the fascinating realities of today, and all of his extremely accurate predictions!
- Jason goes over the proposed future of humanity and many of its philosophical nooks and crannies.
- And we experience scenes featuring complex model work and special effects for the biggest in-universe machines that even I still don't know how they pulled it off! (Also big credit to the epic music of Arthur Bliss, it really made this movie)

Cinematic Fantastic 024 - The Invisible Ray (1936) #moviereview #podcast
Deep dive review on the history, actors, and plot of The Invisible Ray (1936) by a neurodivergent nerd father and son. Irradiated beams are so the light of fashion (See what I did there?) In this episode:
- Jason illuminates the apparently very scant production history and William pipes in to detail the kicking out of the Laemmle family from their studio.
- William then lets his soul glow shine through by traveling back in time via Andromeda ray to the story of what on earth happened in this movie.
- And Mr. Beast uses the ray to cure all the people with blindness and... wait, no, that would be Mr. Benet. Sorry, Dr. Benet.

Cinematic Fantastic 023 - Werewolf of London (1935) #moviereview #podcast
Deep dive review on the history, actors, and plot of Werewolf of London (1935) by a neurodivergent nerd father and son. Ever wanted Morticia's plant from the Addams Family, horseback riding under the totally safe midnight light and a whole lotta filler, you've come to the right place! In this episode:
- William relates what little production history he had. After all, there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in the podcast biz.
- Jason, not having a good snack for telling a plot, attempts to buy chow mien but can't find it at a decent price and therefore has to suffer eating fistfuls of wasabi.
- And Draco Malfoy as a werewolf!? Fans are positively swooning!
