Jim Bianco: A “Unique Optimist’s” Take on Higher Rates, Higher Volatility, & Higher Inflation
Jim Bianco is President and Macro Strategist for Bianco Research, LLC. In this wide-ranging interview, the long-time independent researcher explains why he remains a “unique optimist” even though he believes today’s higher rate, higher volatility, and higher inflation environment isn’t going away. Jim believes the post-COVID economic and market backdrop is completely different than the 2009-2020 era, warning that those who say otherwise have their “anchoring all backwards.” He adds that today’s investors would be best served by investing like their predecessors did in the 1980s and 1990s. Back then we had higher rates, but the economy handled them just fine, and the “Peter Lynch Picking Stocks” approach worked well.
Jim goes on to discuss opportunities, risks, and trends in the stock, currency, and precious metals markets. He explains why recent challenges “set up a GREAT opportunity” in one asset class that has been hit extremely hard in 2022-2023. He discusses how many old-line industries like manufacturing, transportation, and banking/finance will be disrupted in the coming years – and how investors can capitalize. Plus, he gives a sneak peek at what he’ll discuss at the Investment Masters Symposium Sarasota, set for Dec. 4-6, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. Jim Bianco and Harry Melandri discuss all things macro at the MI2 Partners Global Macro Summit
President of Bianco Research, Jim Bianco and MI2 Partners Advisor Harry Melandri discuss all things macro in this conversation filmed at the MI2 Partners Global Macro Summit in Vail on September 28, 2023.
Jim highlights the importance of the labor market in a post-2020 world and all the knock-on effects of the end of the traditional 5-day work day world.
"'Let's remember what the major problem is, it's a cycle shift in preferences and in the way that we view things that's really driving this, not that everything was fine and we just piled on interest rates."
“Rebalance” is a code word for going back to normalizing AKA back to the 2019 cycle of regular 5-day office workday world, a neutral interest rate world. If we’re not, and 2020 marked a cycle change and work from home accelerated things.”

VettaFi financial futurist Dave Nadig sat down with Bianco Research LLC president Jim Bianco and WisdomTree global CIO Jeremy Schwartz to discuss.
Speaking at the Camp Kotok financial gathering in Maine last month, the trio addressed a series of bank-specific and broader questions. What the Post-Covid Economy Looks Like with Jim Bianco: Peak Prosperity
Welcome to a bonus episode of Finance U with our esteemed guest, Jim Bianco. Today, we’re diving deep into “The Awkward Global Economic Reboot,” navigating through the complex nuances that make up our current economic landscape.
Ever wondered about the pulse of the bond market? Or pondered which countries are in the lead when it comes to buying oil in these tumultuous times? Jim posits, and I think you’ll find this fascinating, that we’re operating in more of a unified world market than most of us are inclined to believe.
Now, let’s talk about the enigma that is the Federal Reserve. What are they really up to behind those monumental columns? And in a world that’s rapidly transforming, the ‘work from home’ culture is ushering in its own set of challenges, but it’s not the grim picture some are painting. In fact, there might be a silver lining we’re all overlooking. On the grimmer side, a distressing social trend has emerged: videos of people breaking down, unable to meet the basic costs of living. It’s a sign of the times, but how did we get here?
From the era of the ‘nifty fifty’ to today’s ‘magnificent seven,’ market powerhouses have shifted, and the influence of these giants is palpable. And before we wrap up today, we’ll touch upon the elephant in the room – the still untapped and unpredictable potential of AI on our global economy. Buckle up, folks; this is one episode you won’t want to miss.
