Jets’ Robert Saleh Drops WR Hint While Discussing 2023 Changes
Jets’ Robert Saleh Drops WR Hint While Discussing 2023 Changes
New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke with NFL Network reporter Judy Battista ahead of the NFL’s Annual League Meetings, and although the interview did not provide any details on the decision to trade Elijah Moore, the Jets HC did comment on the new additions at wide receiver.
“It’s a dynamic room,” Saleh told Battista and NFL.com. “[Allen] Lazard and Corey [Davis] make our two very big receivers who can provide a lot in terms of the run game and getting those big-body, big-boy routes and those hard, over-the-middle concepts.
And you’ve got Mecole Hardman, who just has blazing speed. Adding that speed element to our group. Garrett [Wilson], obviously, coming back. Hopefully he continues to get better. We’ve got a bunch of young guys, too, that we’re really excited about that we’re hoping can develop. It’s a really exciting group of receivers.”
The Lazard and Hardman praise is expected from the player-friendly head coach, but one piece of that response was somewhat surprising. Saleh appeared to imply that the Jets have plans to retain Davis as one of their WRs in 2023.
A strong cut candidate the moment the 2022 campaign ended, Gang Green could save $10.5 million if they choose to part ways with the veteran wideout according to Over the Cap.
Having said that, Davis’ skill set fits new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s scheme. The play-caller likes to operate a run-heavy system that utilizes bigger receivers that are strong blockers on the edge.
Lazard obviously has a history in Hackett’s offense, and Davis is practically built for it too — giving the Jets two of the better run-blocking WRs in the game with Denzel Mims as a decent reserve in this regard.

Mac Jones Teammate Suggests Replacing QB With Former MVP
Mac Jones Teammate Suggests Replacing QB With Former MVP
Recently retired former Patriots safety Devin McCourty recently suggested replacing Mac Jones under center in New England with 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson,
whose future in Baltimore is uncertain with one year left on his deal and his name being mentioned in both trade talks and contract negotiations with the Ravens.
While speaking on the March 22 edition of the Green Light with Chris Long podcast,
McCourty said he’d be interested in Bill Belichick bringing on the former first-round draft pick because the Patriots coach could play to Jackson’s strengths — which don’t tend to be highlighted by analysts when discussing the No. 8.
“A guy like Lamar Jackson … everyone always sees and always talks about his limitations. In New England, it’s all about, ‘Let’s play to your strengths,” McCourty said. “I will be very interested.
And if Bill really had him, he would be like. ‘Hey, let’s do this with him, let’s do that with him, let’s actually go play to his strengths,’ which will be pretty cool to see.”

Browns Add to Free Agent Haul With Former Commanders OL
Browns Add to Free Agent Haul With Former Commanders OL
The Cleveland Browns are bringing in some offensive line depth, adding former Washington Commanders guard Wes Martin.
Martin signing with Cleveland was first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Martin is an Ohio native and comes home to play for the Browns after stints with the Commanders and New York Giants. He was originally a fourth-round pick of Washington in 2019 out of Indiana. Martin has some starting experience on his resume, getting the nod 11 times in 38 career games.
Martin is expected to sign a one-year deal later next week. He’ll supply some depth behind Wyatt Teller and Joel Bitonio, which was needed after Hjalte Froholdt departed for the Cardinals. Froholdt started six games last season for the Browns.
The Browns starting unit is set, with all the key pieces locked up. A big move for the Browns this offseason was retaining center Ethan Pocic, who was a free agent. Pocic inked a 3-year, $18 million contract after stepping up when his number was called for 13 starts last season.

Cowboys May Cut Former Highly Touted $7 Million 23-Year-Old, Says Insider
Cowboys May Cut Former Highly Touted $7 Million 23-Year-Old, Says Insider
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph has underwhelmed since being selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft and the former Kentucky standout may be fighting for a roster spot heading into next season.
The Athletic’s Jon Machota noted that the Cowboys swinging a deal for star corner Stephon Gilmore means that Joseph may be fighting for a roster spot in training camp.
“Gilmore, Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis give the Cowboys a good combination of starting cornerbacks,” Machota wrote on March 20, 2023. “Kelvin Joseph and Nahshon Wright could end up competing for one of the final roster spots.
“Nothing the Cowboys have done should prevent them from drafting another cornerback in the early rounds. Before the trade for Gilmore, it was one of the positions expected to be targeted at Pick 26. It still could be, but there’s not as much immediate need with Gilmore.”
