Scissor block
The Scissor Block✂️ is a block I learned from TKD. I like to use it when your kick defense gets too predictable.
Use this when defending against head and body kicks.
•
➡️Key take aways⬅️
1️⃣ it is important to anticipate the incoming head kick and keep your chin protected while raising your lead shoulder.
2️⃣ You should also use your opposite hand to palm block the kick and hug it with your lead arm, creating the scissor block.
3️⃣ Send them to the canvas or concrete
Happy sweeping! 🧹

Kick city!
It’s important as a martial artist to learn how to use kicks. Rather that is kicking with intention, going in for the kill. Set ups, for a takedown, or self defense, to break a knee cap or eliminate the threat or kick them away from you - giving yourself time to run. Either way. This month we will be practicing working on kicks and movement. Share, tag a friend, leave a comment. Let me know what you think.

Holding pads
Grappling arts and striking arts both have unspoken ‘off the mat’ benefit. Confidence is obvious but in the heat of the moment and your in the midst of a fight grappling arts give you the ability to know where the person is going, and set up traps and break limbs.
Striking Art is just as beautiful.
I’ve learned that the most essential part, other than practicing - is holding pads for your partner. •
KEY TAKE AWAY:
1️⃣ learn how to mimic your partner
2️⃣ mimic a fight see openings take note of what you could execute if you were in a fight.
3️⃣ watch torso upside down triangle🔽shoulders and hip.
4️⃣able to control pace. Learn your range.
5️⃣ not flinch when attacks come toward you. Become comfortable with punches and kicks being thrown at you.
6️⃣ have your own flair/ your own style holding
7️⃣ reading your opponent and working with individuals who have less experience builds repetition muscle memory and confidence it also helps you with awareness reading people’s body on street anticipating their movement. It’s fun but weird in public.

Technique of the week
This week I will be teaching how to check, block and catch a kick.
We will also be working on the development of one combination using the blocks and counters that were covered.
Partner drills should be at 30-50% capacity, enough for the student to take care of their partners.
-1,1, parry (simultaneously throwing a 3), 4, switch head kick
-block head kick, body kick, scoop leg kick.
Block the head kick, ‘answer the phone’ body block, check, or ‘pick up your pants’.
Once the student is familiar with combination they may add their own flair to the combination.

Technique of the week
This week we covered a lot.
Combinations below are for those who have missed class or are just tuning in for the sessions.
Defense: cover, parry, slip
Combinations:
-1, slip, 2, 3, 4 pressing forward
-Parry, 5, 2 switch kick
-2, 3, 2 cover, teep, switch round kick
The best way to practice this is with a partner or shadow boxing if you have experience. Each strike has its deliberate purpose for being thrown; be intentional with your strikes.
If you do not have someone to drill with, practice the following drills on the bag:
(Jab, cross, lead hook, rear hook, rear round kick.) 1, 2, 3, 4 round kick
(Lead uppercut, cross, rear kick) 5, 2 switch kick
(Cross, hook, cross, lead leg front kick, switch kick) 2,3,2 teep, switch kick
