Hello,
glad you are visiting my channel. In this video I restore a paper punch. I saw the old hole punch and was immediately fascinated by the extremely functional design. The entire mechanism is exposed and very demonstrative. Unfortunately, the beautifully exposed mechanism is heavily rusted and no longer fully functional.
The punch was manufactured by Henssson, an office supplies company that produced in Weimar, Germany around the 1910s.
The restoration of the antique office article I started as always with the complete disassembly. During the disassembly, I noticed that all the rusty mechanical parts were once nickel plated. This is clearly visible from the flaking coating that is eroded by the rust.
After disassembly, I once again had the parts sandblasted by mister patina. The sandblasting was very time consuming because the punch was not painted but had a japanning coating. This very complex technique was very often used at the beginning of the 20th century, such as for writing and sewing machines. The technique was intended to imitate the deep black coating of Japanese imports and has its origins in the 17th century.
For japanning, a mixture of tar, turpentine and linseed oil is mixed and, after a long curing period, applied by brush and then baked in the oven. The baking itself is carried out in several steps and is extremely time-consuming.
It was particularly important to me to preserve the antique charm of this object and therefore I decided to renew the japanning and not to paint the punch. I have also completely renewed and polished the nickel plating on the mechanical components.
The result is that the punch shines in a completely new brilliance. the techniques used make it possible to imagine that the punch is back as it was more than 100 years ago in an office shop window.
I hope you have fun with the video. Feel free to ask questions.

FUNDAMENTALL 1930's Hand Cranked Grinder Restoration

In this restoration, I started with a very old and rusty grinder that I found in the junk department on ebay classifieds. The mechanics of the grinder was still intact and it could be turned freely with some force, but some parts on the grinder were replaced provisionally.
As usual, I started the restoration by first completely disassembling the antique tool. This worked surprisingly well, despite all the rust almost all the screws could be loosened. I only had to cut one screw loose and replace it later with a custom one.
Both a piece of paper with old German writing and a D.R.G.M (Deutsches Reichs-Gebrauchsmuster) stamp suggest that thehand cranked grinder was made before 1941. Somewhat in the 1930's I would judge by its appearance.
Unfortunately, a stamp could not be found.
After I carefully cleaned everything, the parts were sandblasted. Since I don't have access to a sandblaster at the moment, Mister Patina helped me out. In exchange for an old piece of wood and a beer, he sandblasted all the parts for me and sent me his own little restoration video.
I then sorted the components of the old tool and partially cold blued, hot blued, polished or painted them. My goal in the restoration was to accentuate the sweeping tool body with a powerful color and restore it to perfect condition. The attachments in turn had to be preserved to indicate their age. A few polished highlights round out the overall look and emphasize the functional aesthetics of days gone by.
Once again, I had a lot of fun with this restoration project and I'm happy to share the result with you.

AMAZING Rusty Cleaver Restoration with Oak Handle

I found the cleaver that I am restoring in this video in the cellar of a friend's construction site.
A 400-year-old house is being renovated on the construction site and I was able to discover some treasures from former days in the cellar. My friend is happy when they will be given a second life and all this stuff won't end up on the junk.
The shape of the cleaver is very swingy and the many dents on the upper edge indicate that a butcher once worked a lot with the cleaver. A hammer was certainly also used to drive the cleaver through more solid structures with more force. The dents and dings in the upper area suggest this.
The handle is past its prime, the wood is rotten and broken and is only held together by duct tape. I have to make a new handle here. For the new handle I have a nice piece of 400 year old oak that once acted as a beam in the old house we are renovating. The beam had to be replaced in the house, but I was able to save some pieces of the wood.
I started to remove the rust from the cleaver with electrolysis. Together with washing soda and a power supply the rust can be transferred to a sacrificial anode. Then I was able to contour the edge of the cleaver and finish it nicely with a power file. I sanded in different grits up to 220 grit. Then I grinded the blade by hand. First 240 grit then 400 grit, 600 grit and then 1000 grit and 1500 grit.
I brushed off the upper part with an electric steel brush and then cold blued it to protect it from rust.
Finally I sanded with 2000 grit sandpaper and polished everything to a high shine with the polishing stand and white and blue polishing paste on a felt wheel.
Now I could make the handle out of the beautiful piece of oak. I made an inlay from a piece of plywood that gives the handle a dynamic look. I polished up and reused the brass and probably copper applications that framed the old handle. A piece of brass that decorates the new handle lengthwise connects the applications and makes the wood look narrower.
I finished the wood by hand with 240, 400, 600 and even 1000 grit sandpaper, which made it very smooth. The ergonomic shape of the handle and the fine surface make it very comfortable to grip.
I treated the handle with linseed oil at the end to preserve it.
Of course there is a beer tasting again.
I hope you have as much fun with the video as I had making it - I really like the result 😊

In this video I am setting up a workshop in the basement room I renovated. The final transformation includes the restoration and installation of workbenches, a fine work table, a storage corner and a tool sorting system.
The project once again took more time than expected, but it was extremely satisfying to complete the man cave.
I am looking forward to working on restorations again from now on and to switch the focus from the whole room to unique objects.
Thank you for sticking with me through to this point and motivating me daily with your lovely comments. Without you I would not have had the courage to rent, renovate and set up my own workshop.
Special thanks to my wonderful friends who donated awesome workbenches to make the setup possible.

In this video I am not restoring a tool, but the room I want to use as a workshop from now on. The old brick walls are damp and crumbling and urgently need a new plastering. So a renovation is necessary. And I have to do this basement renovation on a budget.
Preparing the room for its future use is a necessary part of the workshop build.
After I painted the room, I also prepared the electrical system for future use and installed enough sockets for my tools and much more light to improve the video quality for this channel.
I would like to take you with me on this journey and I hope that you also like a renovation for a change.
I would be happy if you subscribe to my channel so that you don't miss the second part where i will set up the workshop.

In this video I restore a german grease gun from Robert Seifferman Frankfurt. The antique tool is made entirely of brass. The vintage tool is made around the year 1900 and in fairly good condition, therefore I do a very gentle restorations with a focus on deep cleaning and polishing brass.
The tool is a gift for Mister Patina. His channel and inspiring work is always worth a click.
I found the grease gun in the cellar which I recently rented as my new workshop. I am glad that the project was not too complex, as i am currently very busy with the renovation of the new workshop.
The beertasting this time is personell, because I try a beer from my hometown.
So I'm happy the project is done and the video is ready. I hope you enjoy my content. Please subscribe, if you want to see my future work.

In this video I restore a wrought iron screwdriver. The antique tool is partially forged. It is very rusted and cracked on several spots. A tool restoration is necessary.
I got it for a small fee on eBay. The restoration includes woodcarving and polishing sequences. It was a lot of fun, but way more work than expected, since I got some route blocks on the way.
I think the result looks somewhat medieval, but see for yourselfs.
Thee beertasting is an oktoberfest special of course!

In this video I again protect tools that didnt age the way they deserved. This time I restore an old and huge german goliath vise. The antique tool is a Goliath 150 and was preowned by a hobby blacksmith.
I got it for 20€ on eBay. I need the vise restoration for future projects.
Mid restoration I realized, that the vise was never the very best quality, the cast was very inaccurat and it probably wasnt post-processed after casting.
Thats why I decided, that I have to make this vise extra special. It needed as much attention as possible. The whole process took me a approx. a week. But I had to wait for some parts for much more time.
So I'm happy the project is done and the video is ready. I hope you enjoy my content.

Hello and welcome back to my channel. In this restoration video I will restore two pairs of 100 year old tailor scissors.
I do the restoration on special request of my girlfriends dad. After he saw my first restoration video he gave them to me and asked me if I could save them.
He got them from his grandfather who was a tailor all his life in the pre 50s time.
These scissors are the only inheritance that remind him of his grandfather.
This project was a lot of fun and I enjoyed working on it. Subscribe and share, if you like the video.

Hello,
this is the first video of my channel and my first video documented restoration.
The very dirty and slightly rusted oil lamp belongs to my friend.
He got the lamp from the owner of an irish pub, in which it was part of the decoration.
The lamp was bought and produced in the 50s in former Czechoslovakia.
I hope you enjoy the video and you decide afterwards to subscribe to my channel.
