Highlights
🌱 Cultural Roots: Cannabis has a deep historical significance in Chinese culture, represented by the character “Má.”
🌍 Global Awareness: The rise of CBD awareness is influencing modern Chinese attitudes towards cannabis.
🏺 Traditional Medicine: Cannabis has been utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, aiding various health conditions.
💻 Tech Innovation: The Cannabis app aims to foster a legal marketplace for home growing and cannabis clubs.
🚀 Changing Perceptions: Increasing global travel and social media are shifting younger generations’ views on cannabis in China.
⚖️ Regulatory Evolution: China’s recent regulatory changes signal a potential shift toward recognizing cannabis’s medical benefits.
💔 Harm Reduction: Addressing the stigma and misinformation around cannabis is crucial for responsible regulation and harm reduction strategies.
In this Talk with Jia Zhuang of the Cannabis App by sharing share insights and experiences, focusing on cannabis history and its potential benefits.
in our previous talk with Ben Stevens of 'Business of Cannabis' we both remarked and felt that there was not enough innovation happening in an industry with so much promise. Fundamental to much of the latest regulatory models across Europe is the CSC Cannabis Social Model, born first in Spain and ready to be copied across the world as the legislators allow
In the UK which has had Legalised Medical Cannabis since 2018 it actually means that is legal to VAPE your own prescribed Meds which has created the possibility for Vape Lounges to appear across the UK as we highlighted in a previous Talk with Alan Robinson from his Vape Lounge in Ballyclare in Northern Ireland.
The Legendary Gary Youds from Liverpool's famous Chillin Rooms has led the charge in creating and paying the price 3 times with his liberty to make the first bona fide Cannabis Club in the UK happen.
Lately Gary has hooked up with the brilliant Chinese Tech and soul spirit Jia Zhuang to create one of the most innovative Apps for the Cannabis space that can help clubs to operate more efficiently and prioritizing Harm reduction!
The hope being to create a model that makes it as easy as possible for politicians to more easily commit to responsible regulation across multiple regions.
Gary and Jia are forming a formidable partnership and the Irish Canna Clinic will be following all their progress very closely and look out for some real collaborations of substance in the very near future!

ES 10:57 / 34:44 Episode 30. Ana Maria Rodriguez Saez - Anafar - Cannabis and Cancer
00:00 Ana Maria Rodriguez's Integrative Health Journey
05:30 Ana's Personal Journey and Cannabis Legalization
14:49 Medical Cannabis Regulation in Spain
19:45 Dietitian Ana's Medical Cannabis Expertise
24:39 Irish MCAP Program Limitations and Solutions
29:04 Guided Cannabis Use for Medical Purposes
31:06 Ana Maria Rodriguez's Integrative Health Journey
In this latest edition of 'Canna We Talk Now?' Podcast, Stephen meets Ana Maria Rodriguez Saez to discuss her background first as as a working pharmacist in Ireland, where she spent 8 memorable years and developed what the locals would call a true 'Grá' for the country!
Her time there took her through Waterford, Thurles and ending up in Clonakilty.
As we learn in the clip Ana has been on a constant educational journey ever since later becoming a qualified and dietitian, with a focus on integrative health and the potential benefits of medical cannabis.
These skills form the pillars of her own clinic 'Anafar' in Seville in the south of Spain.
Her introduction into the world of Cannabis as a medicine came about with the shock diagnosis of her sister's discovery of a brain tumor. Ana didn't think twice but returned to Spain and Madrid to help her sister and find out everything she good about the successes of the interaction between Cannabis and Cancer.
This makes this a vital watch for anyone affected by the disease and similarly curious. Her quest to learn everything about the plant and it's interactions with the human body took her to Oregon a State where Cannabis has been legal since 2014. She worked hands on through the full process of cultivation through extraction and all pharmacological analysis in the lab. Oregon had hoped she would stay as an educator but their loss was absolutely Spain's gain as the bright young Pharmacist came back to Europe.
We also briefly address the current regulatory landscape for medical cannabis in Europe, with Ana sharing her experiences and concerns about the restrictive nature of policies in Spain and Ireland.
The conversation concluded with a discussion on the importance of empathy and understanding in addressing drug-related issues, and a commitment to further engagement between Ireland and Ana's work.
The Irish Canna Clinic hopes to integrate this brilliant experience and we hope to develop many integrative health projects going forward!
Keep following our social!

29. 'Abi's Legacy' with Dr Joesph Rosado MD, MBA - Miami Cannabis Prescriber
0:00 Introducing Dr. Joseph's Journey and Expertise
0:54 Endocannabinoid System and Physician Training
10:34 Joseph's Journey in Medical Cannabis Advocacy
18:42 Challenges in Epilepsy Treatment Discussed
27:10 Deborah, Joseph, and Abigail's Story
38:15 Medical Cannabis Challenges and Potential
45:45 Medical Cannabis and Epilepsy Treatment
"Dr. Rosado has been a pioneer in the Medical Cannabis Community in the US and was one of the first internal medicine doctors in Florida to start the trend of recommending medical cannabis as a natural alternative for my patients."
I feel honoured to have been allowed by Deborah Downey access into her own and her beautiful daughter Abi’s world! Abi suffered from the retractable form of epilepsy Lennox Gastaut Syndrome!
The years of pain and frustration that they went through was indescribable and really unnecessary but everything is 20-20 in hindsight.
In our previous call here I had entitled ‘5. Medical Cannabis Demystified - Follow-Up with Deborah and Abi’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASKaXc3A7HM it had sadly become clear that Abigail after her brave battle was finally beginning to succumb and eventually passed peacefully at home with her family on April 30, 2023!
In that previous call Deborah suggested that there had to be 'Abi's Legacy' so that no child should go through what she endured, just because a medical profession denies the reality of Cannabis as a medicine!
In those last days Deborah told me about how she had finally found someone who knew what was involved in prescribing the Cannabis oils that her child so desperately needed. From the moment that the oils were introduced to Abi the changes were obvious and after over a decade of 100s of seizures Cannabis was finally easing the symptoms.
I have spoken with many parents of children with these types of retractable epilepsy and they all say that ‘the true enemy is time’ as they can see that every seizure is a vicious attack on the brain. This hasn’t been anecdotal for decades now but it is true heroes like Dr Joe Rosado who has fearlessly pioneered prescribing Cannabis to his own patients from the very beginning.
Deborah shared with me also how the staff of Drogheda hospital ‘got it’ and were ready to take the word of this pioneering doctor and on at least 2 occasions Joesph made an intervention remotely changing the prescription which brought the emergency under control. Massive Kudos to the staff in Drogheda which wasn’t the experience Deborah met elsewhere on her difficult journey.
The Mammies in all these cases are truly extraordinary women and we hope to continue to make these interviews because as Deborah says these children should be given the oils from the very first moment not treated as guinea pigs.
Thank you Dr. Rosado we absolutely believe you should have a cape and for any Irish clinicians who viewed this… I asked for a takeaway from the great man for you guys!
It was a simple message CANNABIS IS MEDICINE!!
As mentioned in the Talk we will be putting in place a Medical conference in 2025 and bring this visionary doctor to Dublin but in the meantime there is his full library all can be purchased here… https://josephrosadomd.com/author/

This a quick refresh and some of my reflections during a fortnight that saw Germany legalise, the UN make 'Harm Reduction' resolutions and the EU has less place to hide!!
The Awesome - Spannabis has now morphed into ‘Spannabis Week’ with events developing all around the central Core of the 3 day Spannabis Fair this year celebrating it’s 30th year with the 30,000 smiley happy people
The Wednesday - C-Days at the Cannabis Hub is now officially my favourite event of the ‘week’ taking place as ever in an extremely cool department of the UPC Polytechnic university of Catalunya.
Think UCD’s Innovation Academy or Trinity’s Tangent EXCEPT devoted to the wonder plant that is Cannabis and its myriad of uses!
In previous years the students would often deliver their Innovation pitches to VCs who would be gathered in BCN for the week. This year was more focused on the professional with an awesome schedule of Scientists and Industry leaders all brought together under the brilliant Ruben Varlenzuela one of the primary lecturers and hugely successful Cannabis entrepreneur.
The Cannabis Hub offers a Masters in Cannabis and also a bunch of qualifications for the industry - See the site here: https://cannabis-hub.org/
Those VCs would be here primarily for the big B2B event known as the ICBC which takes place on the Thursday where the knowledge sharing and hardcore business networking and deals are further developed! - https://internationalcbc.com/barcelona/
The 'Bad' - Friday is the first day of the Spannabis fair proper a massive Expo with events spread across 3 days at Fira Cornella which while it has been the site from the outset it always frames some of my personal ‘Bad’ as depending what side of the city you are at it always seems a nightmare to get to despite BCN’s amazing public transport.
But we will always keep going back… and really it will never be a dealbreaker!
2024 the weather was perfect as it was not too hot and just right for bopping with the amazing music as ever offered on the outside stage.
Friday and Saturday also offered a pretty cool line up at the Cannabis Conference which takes place in the auditorium onsite with some big hitters from the industry sharing their pearls!
A highlight was definitely the amazing Thai activist Kitty Chopaka who has been to the fore of Thailand's Legalisation from the beginning and gave an enlightening Talk as to what is happening there!
The ‘Damn Ugly’ title I reserved for the real bad vibe set in motion by the Town Hall threat to close ‘ALL’ the clubs and they decided and then to send the 'Mossos' out to make their presence felt. Many of the clubs were raided over the weekend but they were also stopping ‘Guiris’ on the metro and literally and absurdly had sniffer dogs at the train station beside the Spannabis site. I myself 'con baston' was challenged by a dog as it took a liking to the smell of my PAX in my pocket... but bringing dogs out to sniff around people returning from the site doesn't bear thinking about how pathetic that is!!!
The other 'Ugly' has become the now perennial bug bear of the presence of synthetic HHC products which seem to be more prevalent now each year. but the packaging!!!
Another of my personal bug bears of how badly this industry despite much talk of the uses of Hemp fails to replace plastics etc
The place was once again full of bad packaging and Single use vapes, as an industry we really must try to do better!!
Still another amazing, inspiring edition that sought to inspire us all to find away to get to Madrid for 11th of May to hit the streets for Día Mundial de la Marihuana
The Fight goes on!!

The benefits of the social club model and the need for regulation
This latest Drop from the Canna We Talk Now? Podcast... is a serious one as Barcelona's Cannabis social clubs are under threat and facing inspections in a completely regressive move from the Town Hall. There is a real fight to protect cannabis social clubs in Barcelona and this is a call to the public to join in a manifestation outside the Ajuntament in Placa Sant Jaume on Friday 23rd!!
300,000 people in Barcelona are members of the estimated 200 associations or Cannabis Social Clubs (CSC) in the city.
Many take the clubs for granted so for this conversation I wanted to demonstrate the long fought battle for these rights to cultivate and associate in the city that appears so progressive. That is until people realise that the clubs are NOT legal but instead exist in a grey area because of generations of local politicians who have lacked the moral courage to despite their existence regulate them properly!
The social club model in Barcelona is being looked at as a potential model for legalization in other countries across Europe from Germany to Malta. It is widely seen as the most progressive way to properly manage the most widely used drug in the world after alcohol.
Victor Segues and Albert Tió were both board members of one of the first CSC's in the city called AIRAM and are now shockingly serving a 5 year sentence for their involvement. They are an inspiration in their selflessness that people really need to recognise as their young families are left behind every week as they need to go to Centre Penitenciari Lledoners a jail made famous as they share it with the many Catalan independista politicians who are there for attempting to hold a referendum!
It is politics totally separate to the boys as Albert calls for support and for a green revolution which is the basis of his philosophy!

It was his 2016 Bill that after some hijacking by the Govt did lead to MCAP Ireland’s Medical Cannabis Access Programme which we discuss briefly in this call
He has been a constant thorn for successive governments raising the auld cannabis issue and on January 31st he will table another Bill!!
Due to happen last November via lottery his party the People before Profit have a space for a Bill
This time he is specifically targeting the decriminalisation of Cannabis for personal use which it is estimated would have ended up in 7000 people entering the justice system in 2023 so something really needs to happen
In this talk we discuss the process of legislating in the Dail and mainly the upcoming 2024 Bill…
Please to support the channel give us a like, comment and share… the mood is changing and a successful passage here could set up Ireland for a so badly needed progressive 2024!
Gino Kenny’s discussion on the Decriminalization Bill for cannabis in January 2024.

24 .Canna We Talk Now? 2024 The Optimism Relaunch Again!
Bit of a Newsy Episode this one for 'Canna We Talk Now?' - The Glasses are once again an unfortunate metaphor for the backwardness of Irish Drug Policy
New Year, so a brave new naïve optimism prevails but there is a lot of good and bad news in the space.
2023 saw the long awaited, ostensibly Civil Service Scam that was the Citizen’s Assembly on Drugs!
Plans are to get some of the ‘Citizens’ on for a chat – The result was 37 recommendations most as ever containing the conditional ‘Should’...
We can as ever, expect a nicely bound report to gather dust in the bowels of Leinster House. Ireland has always been famed for our writers so I suppose it is what we do #IrelandWritesReports
Next week I hope to chat with the irrepressible 'pain in the Dáil arse' that is Gino Kenny. Gino will once again table what is a new short mostly Decrim Bill which we truly hope will be supported and stop criminalising people!
In November Aodhan O Riordan in the Dáil put the figure of people arrested for Personal possession at over 6400, so presumably we will have been close to a year end figure of close to 7000...
Odd as the nGardai claimed in the CA that nobody is ever prosecuted for personal use LOL
But some like Patrick Moore can be prosecuted for non profit cultivation that genuinely helped so many patients who testified as such in court but he was given 5 years for his guilty plea – Today 13/1/24 will be the 407th day of his sentence!
There are currently 5 cases (approx) being taken by Ireland’s much loved CBD stores, who have had their products continuously and illegally under EU law seized always with the same heavy handed raids. Their family businesses have been damaged and all the stress of the raids causing no end of personal anguish for the staff.
We will be seeking to get some of those voices on in February to get the reaction to the court cases which will have taken by then.
The Irish Medical Refugees (Including myself) are still exactly that, refugees unable to return and medicate themselves in a dignified civilised legal fashion...
In European news there is also a case of a collective one foot step forward and 2 steps back!
In many cases as the political compositions of parliaments constantly changes... but generally policy moves across the continent go from one minute Progressive to more stronger Prohibition the next!
In Spain there has been awesome news that the new left wing government which by bringing in a lot of the outlier parties with the most progressive in 'Gender composition' has meant a new cabinet and a new Health Minister Monica Gomez. Ms Gomez is herself a pain specialist doctor and anaesthesiologist it is hoped will unblock politics and finally deliver proper legislation for a Cannabis Access programme!
Every Country has their champions while for Ireland it took Vera Twomey to walk from Cork to Dublin to try and make politicians give her the vital oils she needed for her child, the now sadly departed Ava. Similarly it was Charlotte Caldwell who campaigned for her son Billy who while from the same island but the other jurisdiction that meant that campaign meant the legalisation of Medical Cannabis in the UK.
In Spain there is the tireless Carola Perez, an adult who suffers from chronic pain. The hope is that these movements in Spain might produce a policy that can be a model of best practice for 'medical Cannabis' across the continent...
Back with healthcare in Ireland we will speak with the amazing Dr Joesph Rosado the doctor who treated and prescribed the oils that Abigail Mc Quillan so desperately needed and he did so through her palliative care until she sadly passed within weeks of Ava at the beginning of the Summer. Our 2 little martyrs should never be forgotten RIP
Pilots in Amsterdam and Zurich are looking to create further working models that with a Germany, Luxembourg, Czechia and Malta all edging forward the EU must be feeling the pressure to end the nonsense and regulate!!
Alas with Cannabis whenever there is progress it is usually always matched with some real regression...
Even in Spain for so long a light in its development of the CSC Model, it is admired across the world but now has to deal with a lowly commissioner in the Barcelona Town Hall looking to make a name for himself is pledging to close ALL the clubs in Barcelona... defies belief but further demonstrates the inane nature of political reaction to the DEMON WEED!!!
I am currently organising a very high level Irish delegation who will join me for all the events that take place around Spannabis which will take place for the 22nd year beginning on Paddy’s Day this year. There will be 30,000 people enjoying the Europe's longest established conference and party!
As ever it will be proceeded by the incredible C-Days conferences which take place in a devoted department of Barcelona’s UPC
For our part with Irish Canna Clinic…
We have decided to develop something called the 'Irish Canna Fringe' which will be an Edinburgh Style multidisciplinary Arts Open Invitation event where I hope the artists of the 32 counties of Ireland from musicians, dancers, film makers to Street Artists, whatever will come together in one grassroots Arts festival.

In 2018, Laura and Daniel bought a 1-hectare plot of land on the Loop Head Peninsula, County Clare, and began their journey into growing Hemp to create high-quality CBD products.
Their story is one of brave entrepreneurship that is typical of 90% of people operating within the area of the wonder plant that is Cannabis Sativa. A century of stigmatisation has created barriers and so in an effort to be fully prepared to deliver their business plans the pair returned to studying and registered for a Masters in Ag-Innovation at the National University of Ireland and began developing our Solventless Processing Method. They were determined to produce the highest quality product!
Hemp4Soil
“According to the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), a third of the world's soil is now moderately to highly degraded. The processes that generate high-quality, fertile topsoil can take centuries to form. And the world is ploughing through that resource at an alarming rate.”
So our dynamic duo set about creating a Regenerative Farming Experiment on Loop Head to “Explorie the potential to improve soil quality & biodiversity while also creating alternative sustainable income streams for farms on Loop Head”.
They asked farmers to set aside ONE ACRE for 12 Months to be used for a Loop Head Experiment?

01:10:00 Being on parole and the process of being allowed out of jail for a short time. He describes Shelton Abbey he is in as great, with helpful staff and open spaces. Moore expresses gratitude for the support he has received and encourages others to take action in finding solutions.
There have been some disgusting manifestations of 'Prohibition Irish Style' over the years but in December 2022 Irish justice truly reached a new low with the jailing of Patrick Moore, disgusted by the case Irish Canna Clinic launched the #FreePatrickMooreNOW hashtag immediately and we have been marking each significant date along his sentence.
If you look back on this channel you will see the clip of his 200th day when I spoke with long term friend of Patrick’s, Peter Reynolds who was in the court on that day of judgement on December 2nd removing him from his young family’s Xmas dinner table!
The injustice still enrages and he is a worthy cause celebre for all our activism!
We were so happy that he was at least removed earlier this year to an Open Prison in Shelton Abbey where he immediately became a valued inmate organising meditation groups and working in the gardens! It was wonderful to hear that he was going to have some chance to spend time again with his young family.
Despite his incredible outlook in the face of adversity it is still a most regrettable call marking 350 days
Yet this sadly continues every day in courts across Europe and none more vociferously than in Ireland who refuses to recognise any of the value that cannabis could bring to the country!
This humble Limerick farmer, who through his own lived experience via the Crohns Disease of his wife, learned the skills to grow and extract oils that brought her so much relief. Coming from the most beautiful place driven by the massive heart of a caregiver via a local Healing group more very needy people came to him for his oils. We are talking a range of conditions from kids with cancer, to Palliative Care situations and one remarkable Huntingdon Disease who regained the power of speech and was able to testify for Patrick in his court case!!
Still they gave him 5 years!!
You can read the full story written by Peter Reynolds on our web which will also contain the CountUp clock until this man is released. ICC will continue to advocate strongly until he is officially released.
Ireland are missing an opportunity in not regulating Cannabis properly and after the recent sham that was the Citizen’s Assembly we can see that there will be very little change anytime soon!
For now Patrick’s partner Ali runs an award winning cafe ‘GOURMET GREEN’ in Abbeyfeale in Limerick serving only the very finest natural food, wonderful daily fresh menus.
So if you are in that part of the world we implore you to do your body a favour and share a little bit of the love that oozes from this family!
I suggest you pour yourself your favourite tea and sit back and enjoy the calming words of this genuine modern day healer!

There has been a real buzz around Canna circles in Ireland in the last 2 weeks particularly from patients who have had to watch their neighbours just a couple of hours up the M1 enjoy some of the possibilities that are apparent under UK legalistion.
Patients will know that the UK has a very active and by now established situation of active prescribing doctors.
It is the nature of this absurdly unnecessarily complicated space that Irish patients are still largely being denied the same access.
So in the last week (I write on Nov 17) like buses where you never hear of a prescribing doctor or clinic then 2 land at once with press releases inviting Irish patients to contact them as it would now be possible to safely access the Cannabis they desperately need.
Everyone I spoke to just couldn’t understand how this could happen under Ireland’s draconian prohibition!
We decided to ask all the ICC followers and also invited many from the Crain Reddit platform and we got a lot of replies to put to one of the clinics as part of our “Canna We Talk Now?” series…
Thank you to everyone who contributed and I hope I did justice to your questions…

We promised a follow up to our last incredibly enlightening conversation with Irish Human Rights lawyer Graham De Barra.
Graham holds a LL.M in international human rights law and a B.A in philosophy/ psychology and he was awarded a full academic scholarship to complete the Drug Policy & Human course at Central European University.
Graham is also the Founder and Director of Ireland’s ‘HelpNotHarm’ a small but hard working group devoted to providing qualified guidance and harm reduction guidance to many of Ireland’s primary front line workers in the Drugs space and he was actually the one behind the first testing tent in Electric Picnic.
Currently based in Portugal where he is a grower himself and so has intimate knowledge of what it means to cultivate within Portugal.
Please check out his Casa Dos Drogas Youtube Channel where as mentioned in this Talk you can find his videos from his recent NY trip
We discussed a shared disappointment in the outcomes of the much lauded Citizen’s Assembly which in the end after 200 hours of speeches from 120 speakers who spoke mostly of the negative outcomes of Drugs including Cannabis. Despite!!! there being a disfunctional government funded programme MCAP there was never a mention of any benefits and actual patients were largely absent from the deliberation.
Was it for this that drove Vera Twomey to walk from her West Cork home to Leinster House and Deborah Downey fought for years pleading for oils that might help their children.
Sadly both Ava and Abi passed away this year RIP but there is still all the medical refugees that have again being cast from Ireland’s shores to safely access their plant medicine!

Mental Health Nurse Graham Temple is a front-line worker with real experience of Drug users in the capital Dublin. It is his daily job and world up close and personal.
He is one of the founding members of Ireland’s foremost Cannabis regulation activist organisations CRAINN who have more than 40,000 young people on their Reddit and Discord platforms.
A young articulate educated passionate voice who makes for one of the most stunning interviews of the Canna We Talk Now? Series. We felt that he was one of the most impressive voices of the 120 speakers at the Citizens Assembly on Drugs and could see that he had a lot more than the allocated 7 minutes to say!The call ran to over one hour 20 minutes and it was so depressing to edit as it was filmed the day before the final day of the Assembly, the all important voting!
Every activist who had waited patiently for years for the Assembly just to take place and at times were filled with naive optimism that somehow this so called act of ‘Direct Democracy’ might produce some progressive recommendations which the milk livered politicians are required to read and react to transparently to what really is the outsourcing of decisions they are paid to make but don’t have the moral courage to do…
As I watched as I edited absolutely affected by the brilliance and integrity of Graham, knowing the outcome I had a true feeling of almost depression knowing that the ‘Citizens’ had chosen really naively to buy into a slogan of ‘Health Led Approach’ one that Steve Bannon could be proud of.
A Catch-all but meaningless slogan, so confusing that it caused the Citizen’s to vote in direct contradiction to what they had stated so emphatically at the start of the day that they wanted to change the status quo!!
But after a day largely of confusion that is exactly what they voted for... THE STATUS QUO!!!!‘Health led Approach’, can now join ‘Get Brexit Done’, ‘MAGA’ and the rest of the dumbing down sloganeering nonsense that makes it easy to accept and think you are making change!
The Gangs can rest assured tonight that it will be business as usual as this can has once again being launched into another age.
I know for a fact that passion like Graham's won't be quashed and honestly the FAILURE of this Assembly might have lit a spark under a completely disenfranchised 20% of the Irish population who are denied again their human rights!!

18. Medical Cannabis Demystified - Dr Garrett Mc Govern - #CADrugsUse Reflections
In our latest Drop in our Canna We Talk Now? we speak with one of the very few Doctors in Ireland that is not afraid to speak out about the merits of Cannabis as a medicine… The almost singular voice of Dr Garrett Mc Govern.
Garrett is Clinical Lead HSE Addiction Services & GP Specialising in Addiction Medicine.
Dr Garrett McGovern is a Medical Director and Founder of the Priority Medical Clinic, the first medically led private OUTPATIENT alcohol and drug addiction treatment programme in Ireland. Dr McGovern brings a wealth of experience having worked in the field of alcohol, drug and behavioral addiction since 1998. He started out treating heroin addiction and has continued in the opiate dependence field. In recent years opiate addiction has exploded in Ireland beyond heroin with the emergence of painkiller opiate use.
His approach is pragmatic, evidence based, non-judgemental and individually tailored to the patient.
So it is a mystery to so many that such an experienced voice was overlooked as part of the ongoing Citizens Assembly… the fact that he is so outspoken and never afraid to pull his punches has created a lot of unease around the organisation of the Assembly.
This is EXACTLY why the Irish Canna Clinic created these series of Talks to give a space to the so many voices that are being left out of the conversation we believe by design!

Adult Epilepsy can be a forgotten illness as many people simply don't realise can be successfully treated with Cannabis and reduce the reliance on Pharma medications that can be harmful on the body.
We wanted to tap into a very qualified patient to get a sense of the experience of Adult Epilepsy and Cannabis and how it manifests in Ireland in Ireland under the inherent difficulties that prohibition brings. In this Talk we are once again getting validation for our overall title for these Talks – Canna We Talk?
As yet we obviously are yet again not able to speak freely under Irish Prohibition and the threat that it poses and the extra fear and anxiety induces in this case on a patient suffering from Fibromyalgia!!
"Bob West" obviously not a real name has to disguise himself by wearing of all things a balaclava.
The absurdity of having to appear as an IRA man to just give his position and feelings on the struggles of trying to live with the incredibly debilitating disease that is Fibromyalgia.
The exact prevalence of fibromyalgia in Ireland is not known, but it is estimated to affect approximately 2% of the population and nearly one in 20 people across the globe. Anyone can develop fibromyalgia, although the condition typically affects more women than men.
in the call Bob describes that 6 days post diagnosis his relationship with his health insurance company changed utterly. It is something I can totally appreciate with as the day I received my PPMS diagnosis I became one of the 'Non-insurables'.
A lot of people don't realise this and it reinforces the importance of a well functioning health system for all!
I found Bob commenting on a sub-Reddit on this case - https://www.sundayworld.com/crime/courts/woman-caught-with-14000-worth-of-cannabis-at-her-dublin-home-avoids-jail/a2055294086.html

1:10:43 - Appreciation for leadership in the hemp industry
This is a call we were desperate to make as there are so many issues surrounding hemp at a time when it should be playing such a critical role in the current climate crisis. Yet we still have many small family businesses being 'raided' and their product seized in Ireland.
We wanted to do a deep dive as to what is the ongoing issues with Hemp in Europe and so this was a brilliant opportunity to get that info from Chris Allen, the foremost authority on the subject in Ireland
Unfortunately the quality of the edit hits a couple of over exposure issues but the enlightenment is there for everyone to hear!!!
Chris Allen is Executive Director at Hemp Federation Ireland, Ireland's national hemp industry representative body. Her main area of expertise is the legislation and regulation governing the operation of the Industrial hemp sector in Ireland and Europe from 1970 to the present day. Hemp Federation Ireland is a non-profit organisation and Chris works both in Ireland and at EU level to protect the legal and economic entitlements of Irish hemp farmers and business operators and to defend the environmental potentials of the Irish Industrial Hemp sector for the benefit of the Irish people.
Hemp was first reintroduced as an agricultural crop by the European Commission in 1970 and has been grown consistently in EU Member States ever since. In 2018, Irish authorities began to represent the EU hemp crop and derived goods as dangerous drugs in public discourse. In 2020, in advance of the opening up of rapidly expanding global Industrial Hemp markets, the Irish government completed its transfer of agricultural hemp revenue streams from Irish farmers and operators to pharmaceutical cannabis interests.
In December 2020, the European Court of Justice ruled that hemp and derived goods cannot be controlled as drugs under the national laws of Member States. A few weeks later Ireland's Minister for Health designated the EU hemp crop as a drug for the purposes of Section 13 (1) (a) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977. Although hemp products are available in shops across Ireland, they are no longer grown on Irish farms.
No accurate information on the environmental, social and economic potentials of the European hemp industry has ever been made available to Irish farmers or the Irish public.
It is an hour but jammed packed with qualified knowledge...

This talk takes place on the eve of the 2nd Weekend of the Citizen's Assembly and we sat down with someone who has been very active, keeping a legal eagle eye on the proceedings, Law Graduate and proud Cork Woman Natalie O' Regan.
Natalie is a weekly contributor to 'The Cannabis Review'. A Champion of Harm Reduction, she is to be found writing across many channels. She is a regular panelist on many of Ireland's most high profile Cannabis conferences and you will find links to her growing body of work on her Linktr.ee at https://linktr.ee/natalieoregan
The essence of our great "Mná na hÉireann" tradition of Volunteering, Natalie is rarely seen without a Hi Viz jacket assisting members of the public across a range of actions locally in her Cork home assisting with everything from Tidy Towns to 'Darkness into Light'.
In the chat we discuss her involvement in the 2022 Electric Picnic Pilot of a Harm Reduction Tent which took place in collaboration with the HSE and brilliant NGOs 'Help Not Harm' and 'PsyCare Ireland'.
She always brings a very sober, youthful and pragmatic opinion to the Cannabis debate in Ireland and this is another fantastic discussion.
