"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Rom. 8:28 good. In his providence, God orchestrates every event in life—even suffering, temptation, and sin—to accomplish both our temporal and eternal benefit (cf. Deut. 8:15–16).

called. Cf. Rom. 8:30; see note on 1:7. As always, in the NT epistles, this call is God’s effectual calling of his elect that brings them to salvation.
