Em 2021, em seu Relatório e Contas, o Benfica divulgou ter 244 065 sócios Na fundação do Sport Lisboa e Benfica ficou definido que o clube teria como símbolos fundamentais as cores vermelho e branco, uma águia e que adoptaria a divisa "E Pluribus Unum", de maneira a definir a união entre todos os associados. O emblema é composto por uma águia, que simboliza independência, autoridade e nobreza, um escudo com as cores do clube (vermelho e branco), e a sigla SLB de "Sport Lisboa e Benfica" sobre uma bola de futebol, tudo sobreposto sobre uma roda de bicicleta que foi retirada do emblema do Grupo Sport Benfica e representa o ciclismo como uma das modalidades do clube. O lema do clube, "E Pluribus Unum", que em latim significa "De muitos, um", também está presente. Antes de cada partida em casa, uma águia-de-cabeça-branca, chamada Vitória, voa em torno do Estádio da Luz várias vezes, acabando por aterrar em cima do escudo benfiquista, completando o emblema e criando uma versão real do emblema do clube. É também conhecido como "A Catedral" pelos adeptos benfiquistas. A rivalidade entre os três clubes alastra-se pelas várias modalidades praticadas por Benfica, Sporting e FC Porto. Devido à história do clube, o principal rival é o clube do bairro vizinho Sporting Clube de Portugal. O Benfica vs Sporting é o principal dérbi da cidade de Lisboa, sendo o mais importante dérbi de futebol de Portugal. A rivalidade teve origem em 1907, quando oito jogadores do Benfica mudaram para o mais abastado Sporting em busca de melhores condições de trabalho. O outro grande rival do Benfica é o FC Porto, no chamado "Clássico".
