Provisionism

One of the books of the New Testament (in the Bible) is Paul the apostle's Epistle (Letter) to the Galatians (the people of the region of Galatia which is now in Turkey). It's not common to think of the book of Galatians in relation to Christmas but there's a very important verse in this book that very clearly links the book to Christmas. We'll do a quick summary of the first two chapters and then go a bit slower for the final 4 chapters when the topic of Christmas and why Jesus was born really come to life.

We continue examining the PROVIDE acronym of Provisionism by looking at the "E" which stands for "Eternal security of believers". If you have trusted Jesus Christ for your salvation, He will keep you forever. In Provisionism, the P.R.O.V.I.D.E stands for P = People sin: Which separated all from fellowship with God. Therefore, a divine provision became necessary. R = Responsible: Everyone is able-to-respond to God’s appeals for reconciliation. Because a divine provision will be heard and understood. O = Open door: For anyone to enter by faith. Whosoever will may come to His open arms. The divine provision is offered impartially to all. V = Vicarious atonement: The divine provision is of sufficient value for the sins of the whole world and provides a way for anyone to be saved by Christ’s blood. I = Illuminating grace: The divine provision is offered sufficiently for all and provides clearly revealed truth so that all can know and respond in faith. D = Destroyed: For unbelief and resisting the Holy Spirit’s drawing to God’s mercy will be the divine provision of justice. Kevin and I will be examining the 7 points of Provisionism developed by Leighton Flowers as an official explanation of the "Traditional" Baptist soteriology that has always been held by the biblical church. It is a response to Calvinism and Arminianism and other heretical soteriologies. But it is not a new set of ideas, just a new package and name. In the "People sin" point, we look first at the Holiness of God and then the sinfulness of man which necessitates the provision of God of "remission of sins". Next, we'll look at Responsibility. A review of Leighton Flower's Provisionism and where Kevin and I agree and disagree with Leighton. Provisionism is the traditional and biblical view in contrast to Calvinism which stems from Augustine who borrowed deterministic ideas from his former gnosticism and created a "Christian" form of determinism. Provisionism is a term devised by Leighton Flowers to describe the traditional theology on soteriology held by most Christians for most of the history of the church, in opposition to Calvinism and Arminianism. In this episode, we are looking at the "Open Door" point which states that God is offering salvation to all and issues and invitation to all. We will also point out the Penal Substitutionary (PSA) aspect, and that it is unlimited in scope, intent, offer, extent and sufficiency (in opposition to the "Limited Atonement" of Calvinism).
