A Maamar is a discourse delivered by a Rebbe (Acronym: Rosh Bnei Yisroel - Head of the Children of Israel) where the Rebbe in "talking to himself" so to speak, and the Chassidim have an opportunity to learn Torah as the Rebbe himself understands it - as opposed to a "Sicha" or "Talk" where the Rebbe specifically attempts to tailor the knowledge to his audience.
