Abandoned Cold War Era Nike Missile Control Site LA-96C in the San Vicente Mountains, Part 2
Most of the pictures I added are from The Ring of Supersonic Steel (various Nike Surface-to-Air launch sites surrounding Los Angeles) during the Cold War. One picture shows the remains of a WW2 bunker from the Harbor Defenses of Los Angeles at White Point Military Reservation in San Pedro, California. The picture of the US Army MP next to a jeep holding a club is my dad in West Berlin early 1950s.

USS Iowa (BB-61) Anti-Missile Defenses
During one of my VikingOne Expeditions at the Port of Los Angeles, I went aboard the USS Iowa (BB-61). Some interesting history: Captain Fred P. Moosally was the Skipper of the Iowa during a tragic at sea training accident. On April 19, 1989, the Number Two 16-inch gun turret exploded killing 47 sailors in the center gun room. Captain Moosally is from Youngstown, Ohio and graduated from Ursuline High School in 1962. I was aboard the USS New Jersey (BB-62) when this tragedy happened. I am from Youngstown, Ohio and I graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1982. Ursuline is on the Northside of town and Cardinal Mooney is on the Southside of town.
