1. Rice cake
Rice cake in Japanese is "Mochi", it comes from "Nagamochi" means "keep long". Also, there is another theory that said it comes from "Mochizuki", means full moon because of the round shape.
Features of rice cake
1. Keep long
2. Sticky / Patient
3. Round shape
→All are good meanings! So it is said "Mochi" can call good luck.
2. Rice cake making
Rice cake making is a time honored tradition. Basically pounding steamed sticky rice with Kine(Pestle) and Usu(Mortar). The shape of Kine and Usu stand for man and woman, so rice cake making is symbol for "Prosperity of descendants" & "House prosperity".

→To welcome new year and celebrate, also wish for good luck.

Normally with family and neighborhoods, mostly with a lot of people.
→Making rice cakes together, communicating well. After making, sharing rice cakes together with others. Very heart warming occasion!

Sea urchin is a very unique creature, please check below to find how "Unique" they are!!
- Sea urchin have no heart & nerves
- You can find them all over the sea, from shore reef to deep sea.
- There are around 900 species
- Some species possible to live over 200 years
- Most of species have spines, some of them the spines are poisonous
- The best season to eat sea urchin is August ( *Depends on species)
- Testis & Ovaries of sea urchin are eatable, so right before spawning season is best to eat.
2. How did I fall in love with sea urchin
First time I saw sea urchin, I did not think it is for food because it looks so strange for me. And I did not even try.
3 years ago, I went to Japanese sushi restaurant. Since we ordered course, there was sea urchin inside the course. I had no choice but to eat because I did not want to be rude. It turned out that changed my life and sea urchin became one of my favorite food !!

CATCH FOOD FROM RUNNING WATER ~JAPANESE SUMMER EVENT~
Today, I am going to introduce RUNNING NOODLE.

It only takes 5 minutes to make for each meal, very simple and easy, not to mention the good tastes.
Also it is cheap, about 500 yen per person per meal!
500 yen is about 4.7 dollars (exchange rate on 2020/05/10)
*It would be very cheap to eat a meal in Japan for 500 yen!! In general, if you want to eat out for dinner with your friends, at least 3000 yen per person. Well, actually it could be more..
Also, you can make it without knives, heat, fire, pots, pans...You just buy ingredients from supermarket, and basically mix it up.
*You need to heat rice, but you can use microwaves in supermarket or in your hotel. If not, please buy rice in convenience store(which would open 24/7), and ask the staff to heat rice for you. Or you can buy ready-to-eat rice in supermarket. But I personally recommend you to heat rice anyway. It would tastes better ;)!
Please try it someday if you come to Japan, or even in your country!
*Some ingredients, for instance raw egg, it is eatable in Japan, please make sure it is safe to eat in your country as well! If you are trying :))!!

*Whitebait in Japanese is "Shirasu", is tiny baby fish. It contains calcium and Vitamin D (good for your bones and teath), Vitamin B12(to prevent brain disease.) It tastes really good, please chose boiled one.
Ingredients:
Whitebait, eggs, Japanese seasoning, shiso, shredded seaweed, rice, grind sesame, soy sauce, sesame oil
- Natto on rice
*Natto is a fermented food made from soybeans. You can find different sizes of Natto in supermarket. Find your perfect Natto checking the picture on the package if any.

Natto, soft boiled eggs, green onions, rice, grind sesame, soy sauce, sesame oil
