The Failure of American Education via Textbooks | Ep. 14 Devan Rohrich Podcast
The number of textbooks that I have read, cover to cover, is zero. That is likely true for many of you as well, whether you have a high school diploma or a Ph.D. We need to go beyond textbooks if we really want to learn something. I imagine that more people would care about learning if it wasn't so clinical and reductionistic.
Today, I discuss the impact textbook learning has had on all of us and the fact that we need to reintroduce great books. Great books take us on a journey—it is often painful when we read something truly great, but we are always better for it. The best books that we can read are books that challenge us, not arbitrarily like textbooks, and call from within us something greater.

5 Ways to Put Your Best Foot Forward | Ep. 16 Devan Rohrich Podcast
This is a far more practical episode than the last one, so I hope the lesson in this is clear. We are really good at figuring out how to do things, it is part of the creation process we are all meant for, but sometimes we don't quite have the problem itself narrowed down.
Many microscopic things get missed and before long, you figure out that you've been working on the wrong problem this whole time.
Or worse, you've created more problems than when you started.
This episode covers 5 ways to make sure you have your problem narrowed down so that the path forward reveals itself nearly automatically. Here are the 5 things that you need to figure out before you can start solving problems.
1) Determine Urgency
2) Figure out who is Effected
3) Take stock of your Resources
4) Set a Time-frame
5) Create an Anti-Vision
Let's explore all of that together in this episode.

Memes are RUINING GenZ! The Rise of Totalitarianism in a Generation | Ep. 15 Devan Rohrich Podcast
Growing up during the advent of the smartphone has left me wondering what makes us (GenZ) different than previous generations. Why are we having a mental health crisis? What is causing politics to go so awry? Also, what's with memes and why do we use them so much?
These are all questions that I try to address in this week's episode. We have been educated so poorly, at least in comparison of what our education could look like. There is a difference in the type of knowledge we disseminate and that is concerning when we consider or tendency toward totalitarian ideals. Conservatism is something that stands in the way of progressive totalitarianism, but how? What does it mean to be conservative anyway?
Let's explore all of that together in this episode.

Therapist Reviews Book One of the Will to Power | Devan Rohrich Ep. 10
My attitude toward this book has changed a number of times, and I imagine that it will continue to change as time goes on. Taking a year and a half to read 82 pages has had its challenges as well. Working through the desire to push through despite not grasping the concepts fully has taught me a lot of patience in addition to the richness of Nietzsche's thoughts. This book has also contributed to deepening my faith, which is, on the face, pretty ironic but I believe that Nietzsche misunderstood the problem fundamentally and that we have to look toward the Christian Truth again as the salvation from earthly woes. We have a profound opportunity, as we often do, to choose between flourishing or destructing, Truth or lies, and rightousness or sin. It is strange to discuss the mingling of these ideas amidst the relativist, secular, empirical background that encapsulates modern science; however, if we are able to look past what we see now and imagine what it might be if we acknowledged faith and reason as two parts of the whole human experience, then we might see how to overcome, as Nietzsce believed we must, the base and destructive tendencies we humans create.
This was my first book review, and I thought it was a great experiment. I know that many things could be improved, aside from my alllergies, and I would love to know what YOU think I could improve to make our conversation a richer experience. So, please let me know in the comments what I might improve to make the experience better! I appreciete you checking the video out and I look forward to seeing you next time!

I Learned That This Cognitive Bias is Harming Your Relationships | Ep. 8 Devan Rohrich Podcast
The Fundamental Attribution Error, aka correspondence bias, is the tendency for people to over-emphasize someone's personality and under-emphasize the situation circumstances when evaluating a person's behavior. In this episode, I cover the various ways your daily life may be impacted by this cognitive bias. Relationships, politics, and our conception of ourselves are the primary areas where people fall into this bias. You can expect to learn how you are impacted by this bias daily, how the bias plays out in our interactions, and how to overcome this bias.
It was fun to extrapolate so much from a simple psychological concept and explore all the ways we encounter this bias in our lives. I expect to continue exploring different cognitive biases and how we can improve our relationships by increasing our awareness to these cognitive patterns.
Let me know what you thought of the episode!

How To Crush Your Goals in 2023 | Ep. 7 Devan Rohrich Podcast
Starting off the New Year can be very difficult, especially if we are not sure where we are heading. New Year's resolutions are often made with little thought and even less preparation. By the time March or even February comes around, we have failed our resolution and slumped back into the habits we swore to overcome. "New year, new me" is a poor way to set a goal for something you want to persist all year.
Persisting vs Peaking is the real challenge we encounter here, and one that is often the least thought of way to approach our goals. When we make a goal, they are often very broad and provide us with few stepping-stones to achieve our goals. Instead of 'peaking' in mid-February, you are now well into July or September still obtaining your goals. Make sure you think through your goals and ensure they are "SMART"!
Thank you so much for watching!

Philosophy is something that we have a natural capacity for but seem to have surrendered this essential human pursuit to cultural elites and other "academics". Join me in this exploration of the roots of philosophy as I discuss the meaning, application, and overall utility of mankind's greatest tool.

Research Proves Depression Is Not Caused By A Chemical Imbalance? | Ep. 4 Devan Rohrich Podcast
A recently published article found that there is no evidence to believe that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. In this episode, I discuss the article's findings, criticisms, and what you can do in light of these findings. This episode was more response based rather than a topic overview, so let me know if you enjoyed this kind of episode.

Nutrition, Mental Health, & Exercise | with Jesse Hatler | Ep. 1 Devan Rohrich Podcast
For the first episode, I discuss with my good friend Jesse the various benefits and effects of well-balanced nutrition, how little we need to do to make ourselves healthier, and how exercise and nutrition play a vital role in mental health. Jesse is from Great Falls, Montana, and went to college at the University of Mary, where we competed on the Track & Field team together. Jesse recently graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science but also has a wealth of knowledge well beyond his degree. My conversations with Jesse are always full of learning, so I am glad to share some of the plunder.
