Maybe its a robbery?
Yea im hedging the bets, is it a swarm or a robbery?
Ive closed the door and blocked iff the remaining hole with a rock to limit bee movements in and outa the hive to one in, one out.
Now robbers, if any, have to fight their way in.
It is still a waiting game.
Honey is life for bees. Energy for over winter. A hive needs to protect its food larder if they are to survive. They who control the food supply have the power of survival. Its either this hive or the other one who will survive in the ling run. The bees are playing strategically.
Somewhat like human society who controls food and energy rules over the other.

Possible swarm underway
I was by the hive and walked away for like 5mins as i gave the car a quick wash when I heard the roar of the swarming bees.
There is no real reason to swarm, hive has good health, there is plenty of room for honey and brood. But there could be new queens cells i missed last week about to hatch….or have hatched
Its a waiting game

Bee Neighbours - The Chooks & The Bee Hive in Titirangi
The local gals who pop over from next door to say hi and then dig up the garden and spread leaves all over the path... and if ive got the front door open which is almost always - they come on in and eat the cats food. The bonus is they clean the floor of any food scraps that may have dropped...
.... however sometimes they too drop something on the floor LOL

Bees at French Bay - Hive opening in Slow-Mo - funny bees LOL
Yes while it is incredible to watch the bees fly, hover, dart about it is super hilarious watching them crash and fall...
They do not appear to hurt themselves and if it was not for the slowmo you wouldnt see the detail of them bungling their flight ops hahahaha
even now when i watch this I go back and rewatch certain bits to just see how did 'that bee' get nt that predicament :-)

Hive #2 opening at the new location - very shy bees !
Not much action here other than the contrast of the 2 different hives and how they operate differently. Each one is their own little community and they have their own customs and culture...
This blue hive the girls just didnt come out while the smaller ive the girls stampeded out - almost pushed the door open LOL

Catching my first swarm YIKES - never seen it done before
yea so where my bees where at a friend home in Oratia Auckland NZ they called me up n a friday night and said the bees had left the hive and were in a tree !
CRIKEY - im just a new bee keeper what now.
So I called a new mate who was a bee keeper and he couldnt help so he said just go there early tomorrow with a box and catch them in that - cut the swarm off the branch so they fall into the box.
So this is it. No idea at about 630-7am. Could have been earlier as the sun wasnt awake even.
The home owners sun took the video, he was about 11. Both Adman and his dad had no protective clothing on. I was pretty much almost naked too.
so so it goes..... this is a beaut laugh.
No i know what to do would provide more instructions for Bill who also was doing his best when he cut that branch with the main swarm on it LOL
RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
It turned out the bees were still pretty calm even after the fall !
It was like the Battle of Brittan standing on that deck when that happened...

Yikes more of the fast hve close down
Yea getting out of the hive after a mean sting - I shuda used smoke but I was in a hurry.
If you are relaxed the bees are relaxed. If you are 'fanatic and rushed' the girls get agitated .....

OUCH this is one of the worse stings I have ever had.It felt like a hot knife in the side of my knee
I was trying to do a quick hive inspection with out using smoke. I paid the price but not as much as the girl bee who was protecting her home against intruders :-(
Unfortunately I did not learn the lesson here and went on to receive another sting on another day
