The 8th Air Force: Greatest Air Armada in History
The 8th Air Force or "The Mighty 8th" was the greatest air force in history. At the units peak the 8th Air Force has 200,00 personnel and could call upon 2000 bomber and 100 fighters for a single mission. The Eighth Air Force carried out strategic daytime bombing operations in Western Europe from airfields in eastern England as part of the Combined Bomber Offensive.
The 8th Air Forces armada is also credited with have dropped 697,00 tonnes of ordinance on Central Europe. The 8th Air Force was pivotal in winning the European theater during World War 2.
