STUDY: Calorie Restriction Improves Health
A new study found at science.org has found that calorie restriction provides incredible health benefits. The study didn't focus on type of diet but rest assured getting the proper balance of protein and a reduction in the overconsumption of carbohydrate have also been shown to improve health.
From the authors:
“We found remarkable changes in the gene expression of adipose tissue after one year that were sustained through year two,”
“This revealed some genes that were implicated in extending life in animals but also unique calorie restriction-mimicking targets that may improve metabolic and anti-inflammatory response in humans.”
My takeaways: reduce sugar intake and overall caloric intake and watch your health improve.

Profits over the importance of the health and welfare of people is what Big Pharma does best.
In a paper published inThe Lancet, Stanford researchers estimated that if no new action is taken to address the opioid epidemic, there will be 1.22 million opioid deaths between 2020 and 2029—a figure nearly doubling the total number of deaths that have occurred in the last two decades.
Recently Native American tribes reached a 590 million dollar opioid settlement with Johnson & Johnson.
+ A $26 billion settlement agreement was also reached with several states and local governments. MAKING THIS THE 2nd biggest settlement of its kind in U.S. history behind the tobacco deal in the 1990s.
Society let Big Pharma make decisions about health and they put profits over people.

Saturated vs Trans Fats - Which is healthier?
What does the data say about saturated fat and all cause mortality, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes?
What are saturated fats?
Butter, tallow, dairy, coconut, and fatty meat are a few examples of saturated fats.
An analysis of cohort studies was analyzed in 2015.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/PMC4532752/
Their findings indicated there were no associations with saturated fat intake and all cause mortality, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.
Meaning: saturated fat couldn't be linked to poor health outcomes.
Trans Fats:
Trans fats were associated with all cause mortality (that's bad).
Artificial trans fat is created during hydrogenation, which converts liquid vegetable oils into semi-solid partially hydrogenated oil. This is another indicator that vegetable oils lead to disease while saturated fats (typically animal fats and coconut) are vindicated.

How does taurine interact with caffeine?
From a study in 2014 "if there are any interactions between caffeine and taurine, taurine might reduce the cardiovascular effects of caffeine."
NLM 11 Mar 2011: Effect of taurine and potential interactions with caffeine on cardiovascular function
Taurine is not a stimulant - but it may improve brain function. There is no sound body of evidence that there's any need to abstain from taurine. In fact, taurine may benefit you.

The Truth about Blue Zones
Okinawa, Japan - Sardinia, Italy, Loma Linda, California. These locations are considered blue zones.
Blue zones are classified as locations where people live well past the age of 100 - they typically eat Mediterranean or plant based diets.
Blue zones are categorically mythological.
Data collected in these regions have been found to be inaccurate. In Okinawa - if you look at the statistics from within Japan, they have the shortest average lifespan.
Loma linda population of 23,000 - they have an average lifespan of 86 and 83 - But so do all 125 million citizens of Japan, all of the citizens of Hong Kong, all of the citizens of Singapore. In 2010, an investigation into Japanese records found that 238,000 people greater than 100 years of age were actually missing or dead.
Fraud and data error are some of the reasons blue zones have managed to claim higher longevity rates. In reality Blue zones have some of the lowest life expectancies in the world.
Bio Rx iv - Super-centenarians and the oldest-old are concentrated into regions with no birth certificates and short lifespans
BBC title from 2010: More than 230,000 Japanese centenarians 'missing'
