November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.
Women play a crucial role in the identification, conservation, management and interpretation of World Heritage sites, and they make up a large proportion of the workforce in the communities in and around the properties including in tourism activities related to World Heritage.
Despite advocacy efforts, they still face – whatever their background and age – daily challenges in the mission to transmit our common heritage to future generations. For example, women working in the hospitality and tourism sector, in particular, are reported by UN Women to face risks of violence and harassment that are much higher than for men.

FAAVM Canada Intercultural Fashion Show Event
It was early on in the George W. Bush administration when then-First Lady Laura Bush made a trip to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. The occasion was an exhibit of the most notable ensembles worn by Nancy Reagan, a first lady who loved to dress up (and was, more often than not, criticized for her expensive taste in clothing).
As Hervé Pierre, who was the first lady's stylist while Melania Trump was in the East Wing, explained to Women's Wear Daily in January: "It's not just like [finding something for] a black tie or a cocktail party. You have all the glamour, but then you also have hospital visits and everything else. The panorama of the wardrobe for a first lady is so big because there are so many events that need to be fulfilled."
Fashion and clothing is a field where clothes are used to create and reveal a cultural and social identity. What we wear is more than just material sewn together to protect us, our clothes are a signifier of our identity and culture. The FAAVM is the leading Canadian international minority rights organization, working to secure rights for ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, in accordance with domestic and International human rights law.

Inequities in visible minority immigrant women's healthcare accessibility
Reducing health inequalities in Canada is a complex undertaking and remains an important challenge for our public health agenda. A key step in addressing this challenge is strengthening the measurement, monitoring and reporting capacity of health inequalities. Tackling health inequities requires evidence, ingenuity, shared goals and ongoing collaboration across various sectors and levels of government.
UNITED NATIONS DECLARATION ON MINORITY RIGHTS
This declaration requires states to protect the existence and identities of minorities. It also calls upon states to encourage the promotion of national or ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic identities. Under Article 2(1) of this declaration, minorities shall have the right to practice their religion, enjoy their culture and use their own language in both public and private settings without any kind of discrimination. Article 3 of this declaration guarantees persons belonging to minorities the right to exercise their rights individually and in community with others without discrimination. It was adopted by the General Assembly resolution 47/135 of 18 December 1992.
The UN Declaration on Minorities, as the first exclusively devoted to the subject, is perhaps the single most important UN instrument on minority rights; but it is neither the beginning nor the end of UN efforts to promote and protect minority rights.

How Can We Achieve Equality In A World Built On Inequalities?
Reducing inequalities and ensuring no one is left behind are integral to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Inequality within and among countries is a persistent cause for concern. Despite some positive signs toward reducing inequality in some dimensions, such as reducing relative income inequality in some countries and preferential trade status benefiting lower-income countries, inequality still persists.
Inequalities are also deepening for vulnerable populations in countries with weaker health systems and those facing existing humanitarian crises. Refugees and migrants, as well as indigenous peoples, older persons, people with disabilities and children are particularly at risk of being left behind.
FAAVM CORPORATION PROMO
All countries in the world include persons belonging to national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, enriching the diversity of their societies. Although a great variety of minority situations exist, common to all is the fact that, too often, minorities face multiple forms of discrimination resulting in marginalization and exclusion. Achieving effective participation of minorities and ending their exclusion requires that we embrace diversity through the promotion and implementation of international human rights standards.
The protection of the rights of minorities is provided for under article 27 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and article 30 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities is the document which sets essential standards and offers guidance to States in adopting appropriate legislative and other measures to secure the rights of persons belonging to minorities. Overall, States through their commitments under treaty law, and minorities themselves, or their representatives can influence the human rights monitoring and implementation procedures and work toward securing effective participation and inclusion.

Crown Counsel Role In The Prevention Of Wrongful Conviction
Faulty forensic procedures, unreliable science and/or flawed expert opinion testimony have been factors in a number of wrongful conviction cases in Canada. The Supreme Court of Canada has acknowledged that false confessions are a problem within the criminal justice system. Incomplete disclosure by the police and/or the Crown has been a factor in some wrongful conviction cases in Canada. Crown counsel must ensure they fully understand the breadth of Crown counsel’s disclosure obligations under the law and that they adhere strictly to them. Eyewitness mis-identification has been identified as the single most important factor leading to wrongful convictions, indeed the overwhelming factor.

Child Protection In Humanitarian Action
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an important agreement by countries who have promised to protect children’s rights. Children’s rights are human rights for children. The 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child is a treaty that recognizes specific rights for children.
Human rights are basic standards to which every person is entitled, to survive and develop in dignity.
Social Justice and the Common Good
Historically and in ptactice, the idea of social justice is that all people should have equal access to wealth, health, well-being, justice, privileges, and opportunity regardless of their legal, political, economic, or other circumstances. There are four interrelated principles of social justice; equity, access, participation and human rights.
Access (greater equality of access to goods and services) Equity (overcoming unfairness caused by unequal access to economic resources and power) Rights (equal effective legal, industrial and political rights) Participation (expanded opportunities for real participation in the decisions which govern their lives).

The Cultural Role Of Fashion Diplomacy
The idea of using fashion as a public diplomacy tool has been building for quite some time. Over the years, various D.C. embassies have hosted fashion or jewelry shows to promote their native designers — among them Estonia, Lebanon, the Philippines and Canada, just to name a few.
Former Secretary of State John Kerry also recognized the power of fashion. In 2016, he welcomed ambassadors and diplomats from about 80 countries to “Diplomacy by Design,” an event hosted by the U.S. Department of Protocol and ELLE Magazine that highlighted fashion as a diplomatic platform (also see “‘Diplomacy by Design’ Examines What Clothes Say About Us” in the December 2016 issue).
