I wasn't sure if I wanted to put this video back up as it really tugs at the heart. Ellie, the sweet beagle/corgi mix, crossed the rainbow bridge on May 9, 2024 after a fighting battle with liver cancer. She was greatly loved and is greatly missed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Dogs show up around the 3 minute mark. Had to walk ahead first as Darling Wife and the In-Laws did not want to be recorded. Took Ellie the Borgi (that's a beagle mixed with a corgi) and Cody the hound (mom was a beagle and dad left for cigarettes one day and never came back) on a short hike/walk of the Watauga Dam overlook in Elizabethton, TN. While this is just a short out and back (or loop, if you go up the steps) walk, the end point is an overlook of the Watauga Dam. The Appalachian Trail goes right over this dam. I think I called in "Durham Sports" a few times... it's Dunham's with bad font. Ooops. I had a bit of time to kill so I figured I would check out the Fort Henry Mall in Kingsport, TN today. I needed some sandals for an upcoming Myrtle Beach trip anyway. This mall is absolutely beautiful and absolutely empty! Seriously, there's maybe 10 stores in the whole mall and the food options are limited to Auntie Anne's Pretzels and a Charley's Steakery. No Kiosks. No Disney Store. No anything... and no people! Hopefully the new Rural King and IMAX theater coming here will liven up the place but for now, it's just me buying sandals and some octogenarian's getting their steps in. Good times! The Exchange Place is an 1800s farming homestead that used to be a waypoint for The Pony Express. Rider's would be able to trade one horse for another so the rider could continue to deliver the mail while the horses got some rest. Eventually, the farm also became a market for other local farmers to trade or sell goods. The farm is well known for its Cotswold sheep of which we got to see a few. We also saw chickens, pigs and a really sweet donkey! The Exchange Place hosted its annual Spring Garden Fair event which I had thought was mostly just a small craft market. Much to my surprise, there were actors in period clothing, all the buildings were open and the place was bustling with activity! This type of event is the reason we moved to Tennessee!
