The Mystique of a Woman with Guest Jean Lush
Keeping the initial interest and spark alive in a marriage can seem like an elusive task. What is the mysterious “it” factor that everyone seems to be after? On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and the late Jean Lush advise women on how to keep their “feminine mystique” strong by fostering their intellect, confidence, and their God-given attributes. Proverbs 31:10-11 says, “Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far more than rubies.” God’s plan is perfect, and He purposefully created men and women to be uniquely different from one another.
About Today's Guest: Jean Lush
The late Jean Lush was an author and certified counselor with CRISTA Ministries in Seattle, Washington. For over 30 years, she offered insight into the dynamics of womanhood via her ministry and published works, and became well known for her radio and television outreach. Lush co-authored many books, including "Mothers and Sons: Raising Boys to be Men," "Women and Stress: Practical Ways to Manage Tension," and the best-selling "Emotional Phases of a Woman’s Life." Lush attended The University of Adelaide in South Australia, and was one of the first women certified as a marriage counselor in the state of Washington. Jean died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 82. She and her husband, Lyall, who preceded her in death in 1991, proudly raised a son, David, and a daughter, Robin. Jean is survived by her children, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Christianity and Wokeness - Part 2 with Guest Dr. Owen Strachan
On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson concludes his straight-forward discussion with Dr. Owen Strachan, author of "Christianity and Wokeness: How the Social Justice Movement Is Hijacking the Gospel and the Way to Stop It." They remind us that “wokeness” is a potent blend of racism, moral relativism, and grievance. It undermines the unifying work of the Holy Spirit and therefore, is anti-gospel. As a Christian, be encouraged as Dr. Strachan offers a strategy by stating that the only way forward is speaking the truth in love with clarity and conviction. (Ephesians 4:15) We also need to pray for the Lord’s intervention to overcome the darkness that surrounds us.
About Today's Guest: Dr. Owen Strachan
Dr. Owen Strachan serves as the senior director of the Dobson Culture Center. He was a provost and research professor of theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary. He also served for six years at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he equipped Christians to think positively about God’s Word and the world. 1 Corinthians 3:17 says, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Today on Family Talk, and as we prepare to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the United States of America, we will hear from Gary Bauer and Bob McEwen, executive director of the Council for National Policy. Bob reminds us that July 4, 1776, marks that momentous occasion in which America became the symbol for freedom around the globe. If we, as parents, do not fulfill our God-given privilege of guiding the development of our children, based on the Christian faith, we will leave them to the mercy of a fallen world. Coupled with Deuteronomy 5:17, one of God’s commandments which clearly states, “Thou shalt not kill,” one can conclude that abortion is wrong. Today on Family Talk, we will listen to an insightful presentation from Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council, as he calls us to stand firm in our God-given obligation to defend the sanctity of human life, and to be bold in fighting for the defenseless pre-born. Listen as Tony challenges us to “rededicate ourselves to this battle for true freedom – the freedom that celebrates life and refuses to be silent while it’s being destroyed.”
About Today's Guest: Tony Perkins
Tony Perkins is president of Family Research Council. He is also the host of a daily syndicated radio program, “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins.” A veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a former police officer, Tony brings a unique perspective to the public policy process. The Delicate Mother-In-Law Relationship - Part 2 with Guest Annie Chapman
Married or not, we have all heard horror stories from the perspective of a mother or daughter-in-law. On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson concludes his critical discussion with author Annie Chapman about her book, "The Mother-In-Law Dance." Annie shares that there is nothing quite so unattractive as a jealous mother or an insecure wife. To help guard against these emotions, Colossians 3:12-13 says, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Don’t miss this crucial episode about the healthy boundaries that are necessary between a mother and her son’s wife!

The Delicate Mother-In-Law Relationship - Part 1 with Guest Annie Chapman
Perhaps one of the more difficult relationships to manage in life is between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law. On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson takes on this delicate subject with musician and author, Annie Chapman, as they discuss her book entitled, "The Mother-In-Law Dance: Can Two Women Love the Same Man and Still Get Along?" Matthew 11:29-30 says, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Annie’s invaluable advice models this character of Jesus. Being gentle and humble in spirit may be the best way for mothers and their daughters-in-law to maintain a healthy family dynamic.

I Will Never Leave Thee - Part 2 with the late Guest Darlene Rose
On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Darlene Rose, who was a missionary in Papua New Guinea, continues to share about the horrible conditions she lived through in a Japanese prison camp during WWII. Scrawled above the door of her cell were the words, “This person must die.” Yet, Darlene never lost hope. She stated, “They could lock me in that cell but they could not lock my Lord out!” Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

I Will Never Leave Thee - Part 1 with Guest the late Darlene Rose
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” It’s one thing to say you believe these words of the Bible, but another to take them to heart in the face of unthinkable conditions as a prisoner of war, and also losing your husband. On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Darlene Rose, a missionary in the Pacific Islands during World War II, recounts the promises of God that she clung to during the horrible trials she was made to endure. Be encouraged as you listen to the first of this 3-part series on Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk.

Nancy has worked tirelessly, building solid, empirical data that reveals God’s Word and His commandments do make a profound difference in the quality and purpose for our lives and for society. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female He created them.” Don’t listen to the enemy’s lies; men are not toxic as many in our culture would like for you to believe!

The Toxic War on Masculinity - Part 1 with Guest Nancy Pearcey
“How do we know Christianity is true?” Having been born into a culturally Lutheran family, Nancy Pearcey expected for someone to be able to answer this question. However, that was not always the case. Today on Family Talk, Roger Marsh discusses with Nancy how this deep-seated personal search for truth set her feet upon a path that would lead her to research that not only proves Christianity is true, but that without it, our society spirals out of control. They also discuss Nancy’s latest book, The Toxic War on Masculinity, and the origins of culture’s warped view of men.

The Perilous Fight - Part 2 with Guest Dr. Ben Carson
On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson concludes his honest and open discussion with Dr. Ben Carson. They discuss his book, "The Perilous Fight: Overcoming Our Culture’s War on the American Family," and his great hope for America, even in the midst of these immoral and destructive times. Mark 3:24 says, “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.” Dr. Carson challenges us to wake up and get back to God and the basic principles of the Bible! We must concentrate on faith, family, and guarding our hearts against enemy tactics that seek to divide us by race, age, income, gender, political affiliation and religion.
About Today's Guest: Dr. Ben Carson
Dr. Ben Carson is a retired neurosurgeon, politician and author who served as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021. He was a candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 Republican primaries. At retirement, he was professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In 2021, Dr. Carson founded the American Cornerstone Institute with a mission to promote and preserve individual and religious liberty, and help our country's most vulnerable find new hope, develop methods to decrease the federal government's role in society, and improve efficiency to best serve our nation's citizens. Dr. Carson and his wife, Candy, have three grown children, several grandchildren, and make their home in Florida.
