Backmasking, Hidden Satanic Messages and a Very Tragic Incident

On December 23, 1985, in Sparks,Nevada, 18 year old Raymond Belknap and 20 year old James Vance were listening to Judas Priest's 1978 “Stained Class" album, which was a Christmas present from Raymond to James. They were both huge Judas Priest fans.

While they were listening to the song Beyond the Realms of Death over and over, they were also drinking and smoking.

Something clicked in their heads and while listening to the album, they started chanting “Do it, do it,” as they passed the album cover back and forth. Ray said, “let’s see what's next,” with next meaning in the next life, so they came up with a pact.

You can’t talk about backmasking and not talk about occultist Aleister Crowley, aka, The Great Beast.
One of the most well-known instances of “backward masking” is Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven.

Prince left us a secret message in Darling Nikki. Towards the end of the song, you hear a choir singing but it sounds eerie. It sounds like a bunch of gibberish, but it’s actually the sound of a choir singing backwards.

Some groups had fun with backmasking and would include positive or funny lyrics and one of those groups was Pink Floyd with their song Empty Spaces.

Most claims of backmasking may be a simple case of pareidolia, which is a psychological phenomenon involving an image or a sound, wherein the mind perceives a familiar pattern where there isn’t one. EVPs or Electronic Voice Phenomenon is a form of audio pareidolia.

Our brains are wired to recognize faces, so even when there’s only a slight suggestion of facial features the brain automatically interprets it as a face. When we’re listening to music in reverse, our mind is trying to make sense of what we’re hearing, so we may think we hear a word that isn’t really there. If a person is looking for certain words when the song is reversed, they’ll probably find them because of the power of suggestion.
