Intoxicated Driver Strikes Vehicle from Behind Twice, GOODRICH, April 4, 2022 - At approximately 4:30 pm on April 4, 2022, the Polk County Sheriff's Office began receiving calls regarding a reckless driver. Witnesses stated that the driver of a red Chevy Cruze was severely weaving, swerving into oncoming traffic, leaving the road into the grass, then back onto the pavement. The vehicle was north-bound on US-59 in the southern area of Goodrich. The driver struck another vehicle from behind. The vehicle pulled to the shoulder. The driver then pulled behind that vehicle struck the vehicle from behind again. Trooper Donny Akers with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate and was assisted by Deputy Ethan Placker with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Game Warden, Justin Amundson. The driver, Clara Rosenkranz, 62, of Conroe, wouldn't exit her vehicle. Trooper Akers gathered information from the driver of the vehicle that had been struck from behind. Once Akers was done with her, she was free to go. Akers then turned his attention of Rosenkranz and ordered her to step out of her vehicle. Rosenkranz eventually complied. Akers administered a field sobriety test on Rosenkranz and placed her under arrest for driving while intoxicated (second offense). Official protocol calls for a vehicle inventory that turned up multiple bottles of pills and controlled substances. Rosenkranz was also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance (one of the counts was a felony). Rosenkranz was transported to Polk County Jail to be booked in. Her vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston.
