Monolith Review

Quality does not always equate to fame, a title can pull all the right stops and still end up in undeserved obscurity. For some games it can take years before they finally break through into the public eye, and some never make it through despite the good karma it should rightfully get.
Such is the case so far: With Monolith
It's very easy for these kinds of games to resort to only space ship based enemies but Monolith loves giving you lots of different weird things to fight.. like these giant skull faces.. and my personal favorite.. these levitating wizards.
The diversity among the way these foes try to attack you is really appreciated, these enemies aren't all just floating in place waiting to be slain.. some hang from walls, others hide behind obstacles.. and many have different AoE attacks lying in the wings for you to dodge. It's little touches like these that elevate Monolith above other Twin Stick rogue likes out there.. and believe me.. there are plenty.. in this day and age it seems almost rare to come across an indie game that doesn't have good music, and Monolith definitely continues that tradition. There's an upbeat vibe to lots of the songs, with nice digital churns that keep things very lighthearted. Even the pause menu theme is just blissful.
