A 5 lb bag of potatoes has 13 - 15 potatoes in it. Every eye will grow a potato plant. You can cut a potato into 2 - 4 pieces and bury each one. So for $3 you can have 60 potato plants. Even on the low end if each one only produces 2 lbs, that's still 120 lbs of potatoes for $3 for no work besides initial preparation and maybe some occasional watering/weeding.
