I grew up in Taiwan and immigrated to the US in my teens. I worked my way through school to support my family and pay for my education. After completing a mission for my church, I attended UCLA, graduating with a degree in Biochemistry. I then attended St. George's School of Medicine. I conducted cardiovascular research at Stanford University and rotated through various medical clerkships throughout the United States and England. I obtained my medical degree in 2001, completed my internship at Indiana University in 2002 and residency at UC Davis in Family Practice in 2004. During my chief year, I was selected as House Staff President to help lead teams of physicians through their medical training.

My passion for freedom and democracy is deeply rooted in my upbringing. My grandparents fought the Japanese and the communist Chinese during WW II. My father was an Army colonel, working along side American military, defending the freedom and sovereignty of Taiwan.
