I first heard Mrs. McGrath from the album 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions' from Bruce Springsteen. I always liked this one and when I was looking for songs to sing for St. Patrick's Day, I realized it is an Irish song, so I had a good opportunity to learn it. It is a 19th Century song from the Peninsula War era, which Springsteen adapted to fit his own origins.
