Why does a "Christian" movie have sex scenes in it?! 😱 | A Christian Perspective on Redeeming Love

Should Christians watch a film that they know has sexual content? Should Christians be involved with the Romance genre to begin with?

"Redeeming Love" is popular novel written by Francine Rivers, which captures the story of a girl named Angel who was sold into prostitution as a child and knows nothing but betrayal. The story revolves around this idea of will she ever learn to trust, heal, and love? The claim is that this story is loosely based on the book of Hosea from the Bibe. While I feel that the word "loosely" is very misleading and in no way seems to be inspired by the book of Hosea, I still find the story about finding redemption in love to be a beautiful story; however, I take major issue with the sexual content present. With the book now being adapted into a movie, it is creating major controversy in Christian circles begging the question if a Christian should see the movie. For me, if you have to ask the question, you already know the answer. This is my take on why Christians SHOULD NOT watch "Redeeming Love". Can we really trust a secular movie studio to produce Christian content, especially one that is known for producing graphic and explicit content like Universal Pictures? For Christians who do believe that this movie portrays the book of Hosea, it just shows how little the western world knows it's Bible. It also begs the question, are Christian movies safe to watch? If you are unfamiliar with what the controversy is surrounding "Redeeming Love", supposedly there are two sex scenes in the film. First, the story can be told without the sex scenes, so that should be a red flag right there. Second, if the purpose was to put forth Christian content, why are such graphic scenes being filmed with a crew present between two people who are unmarried. It is completely inappropriate, but we have many "Redeeming Love" Christian reviews that are giving the green light to viewers. There should be no Christian movie labeled as having "adult content" in it, especially when the Bible commands us not to expose yourself to things that would tempt us or cause us to stumble.
