Bishop Joseph N. Perry is a native of Chicago and has served as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1998. Bishop Perry is vice-president of the board of the National Black Catholic Congress, and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Bishops Subcommittee on African American Affairs. 

His Excellency received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Bachelor of Arts in Theology with a Minor in Education from St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, IN. He received his Master of Divinity from St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary, Milwaukee, WI, and his Licentiate in Canon Law from Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.

In this episode of The Dr J Show, we ask His Excellency about the canonization ("sainthood") of Fr. Augustus Tolton, now deemed "venerable," the first black Catholic priest in the U.S. Bishop Perry is the diocesan postulator of the sainthood cause for Ven. Augustus Tolton.
