Hunting Whitetails in Nebraska County - Deer Camp 2011

Fall of 2011 was a rewarding hunting season, especially for two of my closest friends. October's early antler less season started off with a bull elk sighting on the levee outside Peru Nebraska. It truly was a privilege to observe such a magnificent animal freely roaming the countryside. Luckily we were able to document the experience and share the sighting with others. Please excuse our level of excitement, the shaky camera, and a touch of "foul language". On opening weekend of November's rifle season two massive whitetail bucks were harvested from Nemaha county in south east Nebraska. Both of these trophies were taken with a pair of center fire rifles including a Ruger Hawkeye chambered in .30-06 Springfield and a .308 Winchester caliber Ruger Gunsite Scout outfitted with a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40mm optic. Even for the most serious of North American big game hunters, trophy bucks of this magnitude are generally not harvested every year. Harvesting a whitetail is always memorable, pulling the trigger on a deer this size could certainly be the hunting experience of a lifetime.
