Shire of Denmark Special Electors' Meeting, 8/3/22 - Part II

This is the second part of a report on the Special Electors' Meeting, sought by petition, by the Shire of Denmark Council.

The petition was signed by registered electors of the Shire of Denmark as follows, in accordance with Schedule 1, Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996, Local Government Act 1995:

TO: The President of the Shire of Denmark
1. Under section 5.28 of the Local Government Act 1995, the electors of the Shire of Denmark . whose names, addresses and signatures are set out in the attached list and who comprise over 100 electors request that a special meeting of the electors of the district be held.
2. The details of the matter to be discussed at the special meeting are —

i) the Denmark community being declared a Pro Choice community in relation to the State Government vaccination mandates.

ii) We respectfully request the President to call a Special Meeting of Electors as soon as possible to hear and discuss community concerns in relation to the vaccination mandates. We request that a vote be taken at that Special Meeting of Electors to oppose vaccination mandates and declare Denmark a Pro Choice community.

iii) We further request the President to advise the Premier and State Parliament of community concerns in relation to existing mandates; and request that they refrain from imposing further mandates as well as removing all existing mandates currently in place.

The meeting was attended by approximately 350 Electors, 50 non-Electors, Chairperson and Deputy President of the Shire of Denmark Kingsley Gibson, CEO of the Shire of Denmark David Shrober, Deputy CEO David King, Director of Corporate & Community Services Gina McPharlin and Governance Coordinator Claire Thompson. Shire Councillors also attended in their capacity as electors.

This report, on the first of four motions, was carried by an overwhelming affirmative vote.
