The Greatest Commandment: To Love the Lord

This sermon was preached by Pastor Sam Adams on 3/10/13 at Independence Baptist Church in Belleview, Florida. Bible text: Mark 12:1-34. In Mark 12 the Lord Jesus confirmed what we should all know: "The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment."

This kind of love for the Lord involves our not only our mind and emotions but our body as well; it is not only a noun but is a verb that results in actions and is outwardly observable. The Lord Jesus expects us to love Him as such, and for good reason.

If a man is truly saved, he WILL love the Lord Jesus (John
8:42
, 1 Cor.
16:22
). If you love the Lord Jesus then you will:

Enjoy hearing His words
Enjoy His fellowship
Enjoy praising Him
Not enjoy the fellowship of His enemies
Obey Him
Willingly suffer for Him
Long for His soon return
If you do not love the Lord Jesus in this way, you need to come to the cross and be truly saved. To know Him is to love Him.
