Court denies pronouns to transgender MTF criminal

Norman Varner was convicted of possession of certain images related to children prohibited by law. He received 180 months in prison for these violations. He now purports to go by the name of Katherine Nicole Jett (which a state court granted a legal name change, but there is some question as to the validity of that).

He/she (pronouns are fun!) now goes to federal court to demand that the judgment against him (it was a him at the time ...) be revised so as to put the judgement under his/her new name. He/she also seeks to have the 5th circuit court of appeals refer to him/her under his/her now preferred gender description.

He ([ in recognition of the court's decision, just "he" will be fine from this point on ...) was questioned at least in part as to whether this was a genuine change or whether it was a ploy to seek (perceived) advantage (by seeking transfer to a woman's prison, for example).

Today, we review this latest entry in the MTF pronoun discussion, which is in no way controversial, and we see whether Norman / Katherine is a he, she, or something else according to the court of appeals. How fun!
