WE HUMANS ARE SO EASILY DISTRACTED, AND SATAN KNOWS THIS HE’S A MASTER OF DISTRACTION!
He knows Prayer is one of the disciplines (actions) that we need to focus on to make progress in our faith.
● Prayer gives traction to our spiritual lives sadly we are often distracted from doing!
Some of the others are; ●Reading God’s Word ●Sharing our faith (Witnessing) ●Being faithful with our finances - giving to the work of the Lord ●Gathering together to fellowship and encourage one another. These common disciplines that are taught here regularly. In this message, I want to address a specific distraction that can really hinder one’s effectiveness in ministry and rob us of contentment and joy!
● It’s a disease that threatens to destroy our country and society! It’s jealousy or envy!
● Most people infected with this spiritually debilitating disease wouldn’t admit they struggle with it because it’s a hidden sin, but it is deadly and breeds discontent and stops us from moving forward in God!
In James 3:14-16 is says “But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t brag and deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every kind of evil.”
For the Christian, envy is the distraction of taking our eyes off what God has called each of us to do and instead tempts us to look at others and deciding in our own mind, things are NOT fair or equitable!
● Jesus was very clear about God's feelings about the subtle sin of jealousy!
I challenge you to read the parable He told in Matthew 20:1-15.
If you struggle with the distraction of Jealousy, comparing yourself with others. I appeal to you to lay it down and focus on what God wants from you! When you do you will gain traction in your walk with God and experience the joy and contentment of being useful to Him!
