The Church Jesus Built Meets on Sunday, Not the Sabbath

This sermon was preached on 4/17/11 by Pastor Sam Adams at Independence Baptist Church in Belleview, Florida. This is the sixth of seven sermons in the series "The Church that Jesus Built." Bible text: Leviticus 23:9-21; Acts 20:7. From the day of its empowerment at Pentecost, the Church Jesus built has met, not on the sabbath, but on the first day of the week, memorializing Christ's resurrection on that day. This message refutes the heresy of modern-day Judaizers who continue to reject the clear teaching of the New Testament and try to force continued compliance with the Mosaic Law, in their persistent demand that there remains a current Christian duty to obey the 7th day sabbath command. The message, along with the attached PDF treatise, presents 6 arguments (in differing order) proving that the Church is to meet on Sunday, NOT the sabbath:

The New Testament observance of the Lord's Day on the 1st day of the week was prefigured in the Mosaic Law, in the observance of Firstfruits, Pentecost, and other "eighth day" observances
The 7th day sabbath was given to Israel alone as a sign of their covenant with God as His covenant people. It neither preceded nor succeeded the dispensation of the Mosaic Law
Christians are NOT ONE TIME in the New Testament commanded or admonished to keep the Old Testament seventh day sabbath, which IS a part of the Law that has been "made old" and "abolished"
Christian believers are clearly instructed in the New Testament scriptures to resist those who try to place them in bondage to the Hebrew sabbath as a Christian duty
The Lord Jesus established the "Lord's Day" for the weekly assembly of His Church, by His resurrection & appearance on that day and again exactly a week later
The early church clearly met together on the first day of the week, not the seventh, as confirmed both by the scriptures and the writings of early church leaders.
