Zelensky and the Problem of HERO WORSHIP

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been hailed as a "folk hero" by many in the west and by those who oppose Russian aggression against Ukraine during the Russian-Ukraine war. Indeed, a variety of media outlets have written extensively about Zelensky's supposed virtue and bravery. Mr. Watson, however, asks the fundamental question: Does romanticizing politicians help us understand their objectives or aims, or does it blind us to them? Moreover, is hero worship itself a flawed means of reckoning with people? In this monologue, Mr. Watson explores Zelensky's tour of the legislative bodies of the world, such as the United States Congress, the German Bundestag, the British and Canadian parliaments, and also analyzes the treatment of Zelensky in mainstream outlets and magazines.
