In India, a two-wheeler rider is the most at risk of being killed in a road accident. In 2017, About 98 two-wheeler riders died daily on Indian roads for not wearing helmets according to a recent Road Accident Report. As per this report based on data issued by Police and Transport Departments in States, 36000 deaths were reported during 2017 for not wearing a helmet compared to 10,135 reported in 2016.
In India, Helmet is still not viewed as a necessity while riding a two-wheeler. The issue of pillion rider's safety is particularly alarming as revealed through Helmet Saves Survey conducted late last year that brought to the fore the vulnerability faced by children while riding pillion without a helmet. Children riding helmetless are a common sight on any road on any given day across India. The survey also brought to light that nearly `three in four' children have been observed riding without helmets.
As per a recent UN Motorcycle Helmet Study "Wearing an appropriate helmet improves the chances of survival by 42% and helps avoid 69% of injuries to riders."
Exide Life Insurance realized that there isn't enough communication about this issue. The dire necessity of a helmet is still not understood. Through "Helmet Saves", the company wants to reach out to as large an audience as possible with a message that would serve as a wake-up call as to how important a helmet actually is.
And to increase awareness around Child Road Safety, Exide Life Insurance has launched its latest film on social media — 'The Voice of Children' where it brings together children in a flash mob with a catchy rap song conveying the need for helmets along with the message of keeping children's safety first. This video uses an unusual route to help parent's realize the importance of a helmet for themselves and their children.
