Dunhuang, Soul of the Dances (8 of 8)

This is the final part of an eight-part series by China Central Television (CCTV) on the interplay between the murals in the Mogao Caves and contemporary art in China.

Unlike previous episodes this week the focus is on just one creation inspired by the Dunhuang murals: The Flowers of the Silk Road.

This was the first of the big music and dance presentations coming after the Cultural Revolution and ushered in a whole new era for Chinese arts.

Besides being popular over decades and hundreds of performances in China, it has also been taken on tour throughout the world and been acclaimed wherever it went.
