Thonis Heracleion underwater archeology discovery! Archeology series 1

Northeast of Alexandria Egypt there was a "fabled / mythological" city called Thonis and Heracleion (had two names). In 2000 AD French marine archeologist Franck Goddio and his team found the artifacts of Thonis Heracleion in the Bay Of Abukir all all over the seabed floor, and the once fabled city is now no longer a myth. The artifacts found are incredible! Statues, monuments, city walls, temples, sarcophagus's, gold, jewelry, boats etc..etc.. were discovered from using sonar radar and then the excavations started. All the relics were restored to the best of their ability and museum tours around the world were happening from 2014 - 2018. This was (and apparently still is) an amazing underwater archeological discovery uncovering a lost chapter in the history of our planet. Thonis- Heracleion was written off as myth from the 8th century AD until 2000 AD when the discovery happened and was indeed confirmed that it was one city built in the Nile delta close to Alexandria and where Canopis was, not two separate cities as some had previously thought. Thonis was the original name given by the Egyptians and the name Heracleion was given by the Greeks in dedication to Heracles much later in its existence. Be sure and check out Franck Goddio's official site and youtube page that re linked below. Enjoy!! :)
